Any southpaws here shoot Leverguns?
Been thinking about picking up a Marlin 336 for hunting and what not. Can't seem to find any lever guns in 30-30 made for lefties. Just want to make sure I'm not going to be kissing brass when I eject rounds.

Hunt for an older Winchester - they eject straight up.

Any 1894 style lever action will work they all eject from the top. Henry Arms, Mossberg, and Rossi all make this version.

I've never had trouble with a side ejecting levergun, and like most guns I like my superior view of and access to the breech and feed gate

I'm a lefty with a Marlin 1895gs (45-70). No brass in my face, but I don't exactly rapid fire the thing.

Thanks guys, went to the local Cabelas and Sportsmans to check one out, and Sportsmans had one so I went ahead and put one on layaway. Gun felt great in the hand. Also picked up a little Savage youth .22lr just for kicks, they had a good deal on them.

I have a few Marlins, two 39, three 1894 (one an S model, one a CS and one a plain old 1894), and a Winchester in 30-30.
Apart from the Winchester they eject out the right side and as a leftie I've never had trouble with the case ejecting across my face. I do wear shooting glasses as you'd be stupid not to and the only problem I've had was with light 44 loads that didn't seal properly and spit back past the bolt and in to my face - this would have been a problem if I was a rightie as well.
The major issue I have being a leftie is with semi/full auto, then it can be a PITA even with glasses.

I recently picked up a stainless steel 336SS as an all weather truck gun about two years ago.
I have never had issues with being a lefty and using these guns. The brass won't get you. Highly recommended firearms. I am running 170 gr. rounds through both.

Are you concerned about ejection or the loading gate? Older Winchesters eject straight up, but even newer AE-style ejection is not much of an issue for lefties - it won't hit you in the head.
As for the loading gate, my dad just does it with his right, even though he is a lefty. It is a coarse movement.

i am a lefty who shoots a marlin 336 and i have never noticed brass in the face but i have adapted to the right handed world at an early age and basically ignore hulls in the face from a remington 1100 and 223 brass in the face from an ar upper without a brass deflector, as a former 3 gun competitor i got my fair share of hot brass in places we don't talk about here....i just deal with it i guess but haven't noticed a problem with the 336.

See, I'm a lefty and you couldn't pay me to own a gun with the loading gate on the left side, dominant hand maintains the gun, off hand reloads, same as a shotgun or mag fed. I am always grateful I have a quick view of the chamber, and I always pity the dance rightys have to do to single feed or do a slug changeover on a pump gun.roscoe wrote:

I am a southpaw with a couple of lever action shotguns (you can see one in the long-arm show and tell thread).
As above got very comfortable very quickly with this configuration.
Also used to have a .22lr lever gun (tube feed) and now have a ruger 96/22 (mag feed) both being very left friendly - except the safety on the ruger is a bit of a pita.
Lever guns rock for lefties is my assessment!
