Re: Fallout 3
Wow. I just hit level 4 in the elementary school. This is a seriously intense game. The action, especially indoors, is indeed STALKEResque, but in a good way... the "Fuck, what's around the corner.. HOLYSHITHOLYSHITHOLYSHIT" kinda way.
It truly is the successor to Fallout2 in a way that Tactics and that shitty POS console game never even approached. As someone who played Wastelands, bought the original Fallout the week it was released, and who has been waiting for this game since 1999, I can wholeheartedly endorse this game. The FPS combat is good, the VATS combat is good, the entire game has all the depth and immersiveness of the first two, it's got the "you can pick up everything that isn't nailed down" aspect of the Elder Scrolls games, and FUCK ME the character creation process (that takes like 40 minutes!) is the best I've ever seen in my life. By the end of it you ARE that character. Anyone rolled up a chick yet? Is the overseer's daughter a dude if you do?
Haha, I hacked the pharmacy computer with the password "GURPS"!
LOVE THIS GAME. I'm not playing Clear Skies again until I've thoroughly raped this game of all possible content.

Shut it, Czech, before you elevate my expectations to the point of unfulfillability (yes, I just made that word up).

Okay I got my shit fixed. ALL IT TOOK was a new video card, a codec pack, and a reinstall of the game.

Does your BOB at least have: water, basic tools, fire, food, first-aid kit, and shelter?

I went the whole Sniper/thief antihero route and I must admit that this game thoroughly supports that role, with both it's awsome pro's and it's catastrophic cons.Czechnology wrote:Wow. Re: Fallout 3
Hey, just a heads up for all of us...
There is a metric fuck ton of quests that are free form. As in, they won't show up in your notes or quest logs; it'll be dependant entirely upon your own detective abilities, and memory
I've completed 2 in Megaton alone and allegedly there's between 40 to 50 (depending on your choices thru out the game) total (more to come with each expansion pack 8) ). Apparently these quests don't even show up in the strategy guide! If you want an example, just shoot me a PM and I'll give you the initial "free form" side quest spoiler (if you haven't already found it that is, it's pretty hard to miss it)
This info was put out there by some of the game's developers on the official site, and like I said I've searched and located two to confirm it. He also put out a hint to one that you wouldn't even now was there, unless you worked as a radio tech or HAM enthusiast.
If any of you do PM me, for the initial one; you might have to wait til Mon. since I don't have the internetz at home anymore.

Re: Fallout 3
I finally got mine today. I just got done playing for over twelve hours straight. This game is awesome. I'm playing an ultra-good character who's main focus is the speech skill.

Re: Fallout 3
This game is quite incredible. I am not finished yet but I think I can safely say that this is a worthy successor to the original Fallout games. The wasteland is very well realized and everything is very Fallouty. I don't think the "Purists" who wanted things like isometric view and turn based combat are going to be happy, but everyone else is.
Re: Fallout 3
The dark humor of the original Fallout games was my favorite thing about them, and it is my only major disappointment with this game. Maybe I'm not seeing it because I'm playing a good character, and in Fallout 1 & 2 I usually played a neutral character.
The super mutants do make me laugh though. "Hot potato!" BOOM!

Re: Fallout 3
This game is fantastic. I couldn't ask for more in a game. My two brotherin laws and I have been playing this game and talking about how our game experiences vary. We each have different play styles, different weapons and equipment we've found, we've each done different quests and found different places. We were talking earlier about how the same gunfight in town turned out differently for two of us and the third didn't even know that could happen. We were watching my younger bro in law play earlier tonight and we were each learning new stuff you could do in the game. They hadn't thought to search mail boxes and dumpsters for example. Theres so much you can do. I love this game. Well worth the wait.

Re: Fallout 3
There is some humor in the game, though it's not as overt as it was in the first Fallout, and certainly not the second. There have been a few pop culture references, but they have been quite subtle as well. I found the Mechanic/Tinkerer Chick from megaton to be funny. There is more, but I don't want to spoil the game for anyone.

Re: Fallout 3
So is this game like normal good or Bioshock good?
And at last I resolved to scale that tower, fall though I might;
Since it was better to glimpse the sky and perish,
Than to live without ever beholding the day.

Re: Fallout 3
Define Bioshock good. I thought that Bioshock was quite good, but not excellent. In fact I think Mass Effect was a better game. I found Bioshocks vaunted morality to be rather one dimensional the the gameplay, while fun, was made rather easy by the cloning chambers or whatever they were. Don't get me wrong I liked it allot, hell I bought the collectors edition. I just don't think is was as epic as it was supposed to be.Hobbes wrote:So is this game like normal good or Bioshock good?
Now Fallout, Fallout is fucking epic.

Anyone get any bobbleheads yet? I just have the agility one. I also found some Death Claws. Also please send me a PM with the location of the Police station IF it is not part of the main quest.

Re: Fallout 3
It's an amazing game.
To call it 'Oblivion with guns' isn't really doing it justice - Oblivion was shallow, whereas Fallout 3 is amazingly deep. So many different things get spawned off from the smallest quest you get given, it's incredible.
I keep on having to remind myself that there is a main quest log to get into, because I keep wandering away through the wastes, looking at more cool stuff.
They captured the wasteland perfectly, IMO. It looks and feels *exactly* how I would imagine it to be, and damn it's haunting. I've stopped and just looked around at the scenary for ages, because it's just that damn good.
I enjoy the VATS, it works nice and seemlessly. I love the amount of effort they put into the NPC's, the way they have dailey routine's they go through and interact with each other.
I'm really only a little bit into the game, but it's kick ass. I even enjoy the feeling of having to really scavenge for ammo and weapon parts to make sure I don't end up trying to beat down a supermutant with a stick.
I'd be surprised - and really, really happy - if something came along that beat this game in the next year or two. It's amazingly well thought out and detailed
*SPOILER* *SPOILER*
In Minefield, wandering through the buildings finding the couple that have committed suicide made me go
The letters for Vault 101 in the nearby houses when you leave the vault were cool, same with the placards out the front 'we're dying you motherfuckers' and other stuff.
I love hearing the deputy robots and 3Dog on the radio - love that news of what you have done starts to get broadcast and so on.
God it's just a brilliant game. Colour me a fanboy.
