So the tent I have is the Alps Mountaineering Taurus 4 tent (also, I believe, sold as the REI Orion, though I may have just kept the sleeve from an old tent with that name on it), which I have set up for the first time in probably eight years. This model has a full rain fly--or at least long enough to only leave about 4-6" of the tent side exposed. I've set it up in my backyard and I'm going to just leave it there for a day or two to see how it survives. I'm a little leary about the durability of the fabric after the years. I actually wish it was going to rain so I could determine the weatherproof-ness.

But at least I know what I have, and I know I *do* like the Alps tents. I would prefer one with a thicker tub floor just for the added peace of mind, but perhaps I'll look for that sort of thing (the FG models now) if I buy a new one in the coming months.

I have a Eureka Alpine Meadows that is at least 20 years old (maybe more). It functions perfectly.
I wouldn't worry about 8 years as long as the mice didn't get to it.
Shot 'em, now I'm gonna hang 'em, then I'm gonna burn 'em!
Damn Zombies. Can't ever be too dead to suit me.

Found and purchased an unused Kelty Trail Ridge 4 on Ebay for $154 shipped last week.

Seems like an excellent choice. Quality manufacturer, full coverage rainfly, aluminum versus splinter prone and heavy fiberglass poles, and a well ventilated tent body, which is exactly what you want in a three season tent. Well done!

Yeah, I was happy to find one reasonably priced, and the seller was willing to deal on the price. Definitely looking forward to getting out with it!

Make sure you get a ground cloth to protect your investment. I use that 6 mil (not positive about the thickness, but it's pretty heavy duty and cheap as dirt) clear plastic sheeting they sell at Home Depot. Cut it slightly undersize so no part of it is sticking out where it might catch rain water and channel it between the tent floor and the ground cloth.

It actually includes a footprint. :) But excellent advice! I have always used a big tarp folded under.

Haha, hell no!

Will shoot for some milder weather for my return to camping. :clownshoes:

I have the Marmot Ajax. It is lightweight and roomy enough for 2 persons.
