What was your first pistol?

Post by andrews10 » Mon Nov 10, 2014 2:14 am

I remember mine fondly. It was the Davis 380 pistol in stainless with a 6 round magazine. I was 21 and it was a gift to myself. 95.00 plus tax. I shot it so much the slide had a small hairline crack in it. I sent it to DAvis and they replaced it. However, I traded up to a Ruger p89. I miss that pocket pistol. I also got that slide bite too with it for free.

My very first pistol was a H&K MK23. No, really  It was basically a nerdy birthday present to myself.

Then I realized that this brick of a gun was a tad big for anything else than recreational shooting
and the shooters clubs reminded me that for certain competitions I needed a 9mm (dumb Swiss rules for "Ordonnanz Schiessen", basically only firearms that are used by our own military or police are allowed for certain competitions  ).

Then I got myself a Sig 226 for practicality and the above reasons.

Oh, how I love to remember my first try with the HK  I still take it to the range once or twice a year for nostalgy.

Glock 17, police surplus from a step-cousin who wanted to upgrade. Horrible choice for a first gun, but I grew into it.

A Bulgarian Makarov PM, bought at Mike's Guns in St. Charles on my 21st birthday for $180 flat. It's one of my favorite handguns, even now. It was also my first concealed carry handgun. I bought it because it was inexpensive, durable, easy to maintain, and relatively low ammunition prices.

Beretta 92FS because its what I learned on for the military. I figured if it was good enough for the Navy it was good enough for me. Until I got my Glock 34 I had never shot as well with any other pistol.

Clerke II snub nose pot metal keyholing couldn't hit a trash can at 15 feet .22 revolver.

Saturday Night Special.

Bought it from a guy in a factory parking lot for $25. Wasted money.

In 1993 I bought a Glock 20. and Five mags... and two cases of Black Talon ammo.

Great gun, and Glock recently replaced springs and whatnot. It's a two letter serial number, so it needed a few upgrades. I've put somewhere between 17,000 and 20,000 rounds through it. 50 after the upgrade.

CZ-52 because at the time they were $120. Ran great but sold it a few years later. I can't say I miss it, but it was fun while I had it.

Colt Woodsmen.

Wish I still had it, I don't even have a .22 pistol right now.

Kids are plenty old enough to start shooting, shame on me.

Jennings .380 POS. I want to say it was $80 NiB. After a couple of hundred rounds the pot metal slide was warped and was pushing the thingee that held the firing pin out the back of the slide about an 1/8". I sold that puppy for a $120. One of the better deals I ever made.

My first real gun was an AMT 1911 Hardballer. Took forever to get that thing to run reliably. Eventually, after a bit of work and polishing and adjusting it would run ball ammo through a magazine without a jam although HP's were hit or miss. Eventually it got demoted to non use and traded away.

Glock 22: full size .40 caliber.

I've since traded it in and purchased 9mm glock models 19 and 26.

First pistol I ever shot was a S&W 4" K frame square butt .38 special in nickel. First pistol owned was a Glock 23. I was new to shooting and that .40 recoil was going to be no problem for a badass like me. Yeah right. Took me many range sessions and much googling to figure out how to fix the horrendous flinch I developed. Pro tip, nah scratch that, Enthusiastic amateur tip; even if you are a strong young man go with a light recoiling pistol for your first. :D

High standard Victor 4 inch from Sims Hardware in Sacramento in 1978.

Bought it with right after my Bar Mitzvah with money I earned doing dog sitting etc. Dad would not let me use any money from the Bar Mitzvah but could not argue about the money I earned.

Dad was like that and I still have it today. Great gun. I have at least 10,000 rounds through it.

yes I am old.

Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing.

Good memories right here, lol.

Many moons ago, a co-worker took me shooting and I got to fire his 1911. It was the first pistol I had ever shot and it stuck with me.

Years later I did some research, saved my pennies, and purchased a Kimber Custom II TLE.
