compressing a tent?
looking to compress my tent down to fit it in my rucksack, is there any good ways of doing this? was looking at a sleeping bag sack
Re: compressing a tent?
I have used a compression bag in the past but tents are not like sleeping bags and don't compress as much as one would hope. I went to just strapping the tent to the outside of the pack instead. That way you don't have to store the polls separately.
I may be the one walking away, but you're the one that's leaving.

Same here, mine is strapped over the pack as a rain fly.

Keep winding paracord around it. This works great, but is a bitch to do in the cold and wet,so you usually start out with a nice compact bundle, and come home with a giant wad of tent sticking out of your pack.

It's just so I can take it on the plane

Oh in that case then a compression bag may help a little then plan on strapping it to the outside once on the trail. Remember you can't take fuel for the stove on the plane.hutchie wrote:It's just so I can take it on the plane
Another thing you can do is mail stuff to the motel you will stay at the day you arrive then pack up and hit the trail the next morning. Just call the motel ahead of time and ask them to hold it until your arrival.

Re: compressing a tent?
I use a Sea to Summit compression sack and it works wonderfully for a few of my tents. Most of my tents tend to be lighter weight so they compress rather well. I opted to get a slightly larger size than is necessary so I can stuff it easily then cinch it down. I think I'm running the Ultra-Sil small for two of my tents and a medium for another and I have been happy with the results. However I don't keep them stores in the compression sacks and only stuff them as needed. I like this method since it is fast, I hate wasting time tearing camp down in the morning.
