Ordered a Arsenal SGL21 Ak today
Figured its time to order me a nice assault rifle. From what i read most aks are hit or miss especially the WASRs. So i went with Arsenal out of Las Vegas, NV i ordered the gun on Buds thru the 90 day layaway plan. I couldnt afford it all at once. From what ive read and seen thru videos on youtube the arsenals are top notch.
Anyone have a Arsenal ak? How do you like it?

Re: Ordered a Arsenal SGL21 Ak today
If you think the 7.62x39 round is somehow superior to the 5.56, you need to educate yourself on terminal ballistics, particularly on the role of modern ammunition designs, which are by and large not available for the AK. The 7.62x39 and 5.56x45 are roughly equal in terms of damage when using older bullet designs, arguably with a small edge to the 7.62x39 under certain circumstances, specifically penetration of intermediate barriers. With modern ammunition like Mk318, Hornady TAP, or Federal TBBC, there is no comparison, the 5.56 wins. If you intend to use this AK for home defense or "SHTF", I suggest getting your hands on some of the Hornady 123-grain SST, which is a big improvement.
Not bagging on your rifle, not trying to start a debate, not trying to derail, that's all I'll say on the subject. An AK is a good rifle, I'm just pointing out a factual inaccuracy in your post.

Do yourself a favor and get US Palm mags. They're top notch. The TAPCO's are also good but I got a couple the other day and I am in love.

Re: Ordered a Arsenal SGL21 Ak today
I have a SGL21. It is very reliable and surprises everyone who shoots it with its accuracy. I paid $505 for mine during the sale K-var had. During the time that was the best deal on a battle ready carbine. At the current prices, I would probably go with a Palmetto State Armory AR-15.
I wish you much joy with your new rifle. Mine loves the Yugo surplus. The stuff is mildly corrosive but all you need to do to clean it is heat up some water to near boiling, and pour some down the barrel and in the other nooks and crannys, then hit it with some oil. Aim surplus consistently has the best deal on this ammo, and has decent and inexpensive AK mags, that don't have that annoying rib on them. Buy ten or more and you will get a special price buy them in multiples of 4 and they will come with a large 4 cell pouch that is handy. If you are looking to build a chest rig for it, the HSGI Taco pouches are the best I have found.

I don't trust them, at all. I haven't seen any non-biased reviews (ie from people who don't sell them) that show that they are worth a crap.cmbtmedic3 wrote:Do yourself a favor and get US Palm mags. They're top notch. The TAPCO's are also good but I got a couple the other day and I am in love.

To the OP, I would save your money and instead of buying 1 US Palm mag of dubious quality and durability (that you can't even disassemble to clean

I love my SGL, by far the best AK I own. You will not be disappointed. What length stock did you get?

Re: Ordered a Arsenal SGL21 Ak today
The SGL 21-71 is the all black furniture NATO length stock. That means you have a 10.6 inch butt stock giving you a 14 inch length of pull. If you have short arms you may want to see if they can get you a Warsaw Pact stock that is 9.25 inches with a length of pull of 12.6 inches or an Intermediate stock that is 10 inches with a length of pull at 13.3 inches. Making sure the rifle fits your body right will make you enjoy shooting your rifle much more.

Been enjoying mine for a couple of years now. I bought about 10 30rd steel milsurp mags and about 9 twenty rounders. I actually like the 20's better. The rifle is fantastic (and I am considered an AR fanboy!). FYI...Aim surplus has some decent surplus mags for a good price.

If you don't end up liking the NATO length stock, PM if you want to trade for the WARSAW stock. I have one that came with my SGL21-61, but I swapped it out for a collapsible AR style one for versatility.

Re: Ordered a Arsenal SGL21 Ak today
I have one of these as well and they are great guns. One notable area where these guns shine, or at least mine does, compared to other AKs is the trigger pull. My Arsenals trigger is significantly better than the G2 on my SAR-1 was, never mind the crappy stock trigger on my Armory USA AK. As for th Palm stuff the local gun store (SGC) likes to pimp their stuff hard, but like the other I have never seen a good independent review of them.

Mine is in 5.45x39. Currently only have five mags, three are bakelites, should have grapped the rest of them at the gun show. Great rifle, ammo is dirt cheap.

I think you'll like the SGL, my uncle has one and even though AK's really aren't my bag, it was rather impressive to shoot and a hell of a lot of fun.
