I put this link in Wee Drop's "Sheep Farming" thread, but though it should be here too:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-21914538" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The video footage of the blocked roads is quite impressive for the UK, in March.

I forgot about this thread. Here's photos taken at my friends farm in the Isle of Man & also at a farm in the Glens of Antrim not more than 10-15 miles away.

We had all of 3cm yesterday, and there's still traces of it on the ground but it's not really caused any disruption.

Photo taken yesterday, around noon.

There will probably still be snow laying on the mountain. Don't worry I'm sure the TT will still go ahead :mrgreen:

The lasses up here have started wearing T shirts more and more lately, don't really think it has anything to do with the Temp :p

I pity anyone or anything living outdoors in those conditions.
Edit: this photo was taken by a friend at Cronk Y Voddy in the Isle of Man.

:(
Spring snow: Thousands of animals feared dead
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-21933135" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
BBC wrote:Farmers fear that thousands of sheep and cattle have died in the snow that has hit in recent days. Northern Ireland farmer Catherine Crawford said: "There are hundreds of farmers who have sheep buried."

"We are very, very, anxious," said Carolyn Lamb from NFU Scotland, who added that the full toll would not be known until the snow melted. The NFU said hundreds of animals were lost in England and Wales, with Cumbria and Shropshire worst hit. "There are animals going to die here and are dying; we need help out in the rural areas," said Ms Crawford. The late snow has hit during lambing season, "a key time for farmers", making the situation worse, the NFU said.

Campbell Tweed, a farmer from Cairncastle near Larne in County Antrim, said some of his sheep were getting their first feed in four days. "Road conditions are just incredibly bad. There's places where the snow at the side of the road is higher than the vehicles. It's coming late in a very, very tough winter - it's just putting the tin hat on it for many of us."

Southern Scotland has been worst affected. "This is really becoming an animal welfare issue," Ms Lamb said, as many animals are stuck, with no way of getting food to them. There were also fears of "catastrophic losses," with thousands of animals buried, on the Isle of Man. According to the Isle of Man meteorological office, the island's recent snowfall was the heaviest recorded since 1963.

Its supprising how long a sheep will survive buried in snow. Trouble is its 30 odd years since we last had snow like this and a lot of people have forgoten how to deal with it.

This is a sheep found buried on the Isle of Man in a snowdrift, it's still living :)

You're right though, many people have become unaccustomed to severe snowfalls.
