Got my commercial phone in 1976 and ham license in 1977.

I remember (and worked with) vacuum tubes!

Interesting to see how much of the newer 'consumer' technology as bled over into ham radio equipment - like Bluetooth for handi-talkies.

Novice in 75 and the ticket was only good for two years, so General in 77. Never could pass the 20 wpm code test for Extra.

Around 20 years ago I did the Basic with 5wpm code then upgraded to Technician. I had actually let my ticket lapse when a coworker said he looked me up in the database and I still had two months to renew my old ticket. So I got online and renewed it. Then the same coworker suggested I should upgrade to General now that there was no code requirement so I did. Since then I am now only one FEMA test away from being official in our County's RACES club. I am taking the Skywarn class at the end of the month and I got my CERT certification last month. I also joined the Search and Rescue group but I don't yet know what the requirements are there to stay active.
I may be the one walking away, but you're the one that's leaving.

General.. was licensed back in 97 with a tech plus license. In 06 upgraded to general and my license expired in 07... A couple months ago I took both the tech and general and now I'm back on the air.
