headed to NOLA

Post by man in black » Sat Mar 03, 2012 7:34 pm

hey! i am headed over to new orleans over the upcoming weekend and i have an afternoon free to travel the city, does anyone have any cool spots to go see?
I kinda want to head over to the french quarter and walk around, does anyone know of any cool little voodoo shops or any places to eat?
As we run into the house
The wall of dead surrounds
Tentacles of decay flesh
Tear and pull us down
Doors and windows boarded shut
But the pressure was too much
Zombie I, girl please run away

Sure not a problem for either. What type of food are you looking for and entertainment are you looking to see. We have all kinds from mundane to off the wall.

Here are some links:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metairie_Cemetery" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

BTW A ride on the MS river ferry is free and gives you a good view of the river. You can catch it at the foot of Canal Street near the FQ.

Take a street car ride.

As for Voodoo shops there are several tourist places in the quarter. It is unlikely that you would get access to the real places.

i would kind of like to go to more of a down key sorta place where the tourists don't go.
i am not asking for much really just a section of the quarter it would be fun to mill around in for an afternoon.

Ok when you say local food in the quarter try these.

Johnny's Po-Boys (511 St. Louis St.)

Matassa's Grocery (1001 Dauphine St.,

Technically not in the quarter but nearby are several restaurants in The Marigny

Cafe Rose Nicaud
632 Frenchmen St

The section of the quarter downriver from St Louis Cathedral tend s to be lower key and more residential. When you cross Esplanade you are technically in the Marigny. This area has a lot of places that cater more towards locals. That said you will not find a tourist Disney Land type environment any where in the city. The city is real, not a Disney Land.

I just got back yesterday, i had some opportunity to explore the quarter but not much anywhere else because i did'nt want to pay for a cab or get lost anywhere.
that being said i had a shitload of fun. i did my own voodoo pilgrimage where i went to see the priestess Miriam and then i tried to track down the grave of marie laveau but i could'nt find anyone to go with me. in between i hit all the voodoo shops and then the cathedral in jackson square.

I had an awesome time and i don;t think i have ever gone so quickly from being hungover to drunk again as i have in new orleans.

You were within walking distance of the grave site if you were in the quarter.

Glad you had a good time. Come back for the Jazz and Heritage Festival and have some more fun.

All of these folks are playing:

Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band
