Tunafish class action settlement. Are you affected?

Tunafish class action settlement. Are you affected?

Post by Armor76 » Wed Aug 26, 2015 7:51 pm

Apparently, StarKist was under filling their 5 ounce tuna cans for a very long time.

If you bought any of their affected products between February 9, 2009 and October 31, 2014 you can fill out a form for compensation.

You don't have to have a receipt, but you do have to swear under threat of perjury that you bought at least one of the listed products in the 6 YEARS in question. (I have about a flat of the stuff)

They'll send you $25 in cash or $50 in vouchers for tuna fish.

Saw this on my FB feed. Figured you'd have to show proof of purchase. Apparently not.

Hmm. Most of my stash is generic (much cheaper!) but I'd buy brand sometimes on sale. *Scampers off to look...*

Thanks!

ETA - If I had any relevant tuna, I'd eaten it already.

Oh yes, they under-filled them for quite some time.
You'd dump the tuna out and it would just be a loose little pile in a lot of water.
Quit buying that brand.

Just an FYI for folks who are thinking about doing this, you have to send in your claim before Nov 20th 2015. Any claim with a post mark after the 20th wont receive anything. #9 in the FAQ
9. How do I submit a Claim Form?

Class Members who wish to receive Settlement Benefits must submit claims. To submit a claim, you must complete a Claim Form. You can get a Claim Form on this website. Read the instructions carefully, fill out the form, and submit it online on or before November 20, 2015. Alternatively, you may also submit your Claim Form by mailing it to the following address: Hendricks v. StarKist Co. Settlement Administrator, P.O. Box 40007, College Station, TX 77842-4007. It must be postmarked no later than November 20, 2015.

If you received the Notice in the mail or by email, a Claim Form is enclosed or attached.

10. What if I didn't get a Claim Form in the mail or by email?

If you didn't receive a Claim Form in the mail or by email, you can obtain the Claim Form in one of three ways:

By Phone: Call toll-free, 1-888- 643-6376
By Mail: Write to Hendricks v. StarKist Co. Settlement Administrator, P.O. Box 40007, College Station, TX 77842-4007. Be sure to include your name and mailing address.

I was wondering why I have not seen anything on this yet. We have been cleaning out the tuna in anticipation of 50 new cans.

Submitted my claim today at school.

Asked a fellow veteran in class today if he'd purchased StarKist in the last 5 years, low-n-behold he knew exactly where the conversation was headed and had submitted his claim last month.

Maybe he's a closet ZS member?

Cant find anything about a settlement yet (The court date was Dec 20th) but it's been less than a month, and holidays to boot.
Starkist is also being brought up for antitrust (Price fixing). Also - looks like trader joes is in the hotseat for also underfilling cans...

Tuna is apparently a tough racket...

Evan - sorry you missed the boat with the Star-kist. Maybe keep your eye on the Trader-joes problems. Just make sure your in-tuna with the "people who can claim". It's possible you may net some fish or reel in some $.

I assume you give tuna as a treat, but, just in case, I'm going to put it out there that canned tuna should not be fed to cats as a meal sourse. They require an amino acid not found in fish that is in red meat and foods formulated for cats. Tuna is more like the chocolate treat of the cat world - delicious but not so nutritious.

Not crappie, tuna!

Last time I was included in a class action lawsuit I didn't realise there even was one until the check came in. It was for a whopping seven cents. It cost them more to mail the check than it was worth.

Those puns are much more tasty than a can of Star Kist tuna!
Personally I feel sympathy for people who must eat pet-food to survive. Tuna is cat food. It stinks.
There are thousands of other foods out there for us humans to eat like steak.
A good cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato, pickles and onions is another.
We needn't root Snookums the cat out of her food bowl to have food to eat.

For everybody else, good luck getting the $25 gift certificate.

2 hay hooks, Some 100mph tape, 300ft of 1/8th steel cable, 1 brick and a blindfold. Everything else is nature and evolution at play. The hard part is getting a really pissed off cat with hay hooks attached to its paws back in the boat. It was a bit difficult, and we lost the captains second mate, poor fellow...
