RE-POST! RE-POST! RE-POST! This came from another list and it is not me. The company is located in Montreal, Canada
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Hello,

My name is Tom Bauer and I work for CMJ Productions and we’re doing a documentary series about the possibility of nuclear war for Discovery to air on the American Heroes Channel.

We think it's impressive that 70 years after nuclear bombs were first detonated the human race has not already immolated itself in a mushroom cloud. Most people think that means we’re in the clear, but there are many who believe the risk is quite a bit higher than most people think.

I’d like to hear from anyone who believes we’re headed for some type of mutually assured nuclear destruction, and who would like to be on the show and share what you are doing to prep for it. I'd also like to hear from anyone who has any opinions about how we could do this show right. We're interested in a balanced but provocative documentary series.

Our chief interest right now is in showing our main survivalist on the show, someone who is preparing for nuclear war as an outcome. We want to know what you think, what you're doing, and why.

We will be comparing your viewpoint to someone who, as an individual or part of a group of believers, believed in a past prophecy or prediction of nuclear war. If you are one of those persons who changed your belief, we are interested to know what you did when it didn't come true.

Did your belief in it happening change? Perhaps you are ready to be convinced again, this time by facts. Because we will also be talking with scientists and engineers who will have a provocative message of their own, and it may surprise viewers.

People who believe in nuclear armageddon, and actually do something to prepare for it, are sometimes viewed as credulous believers, but the scientists and engineers we'll be talking with may be quick to point out that the possibility of nuclear war is much higher than most of us know.

If that’s the case, then maybe prepping for survival really is the rational thing to do? We’re going to find out.
Please don’t hesitate to let us know if you can help, and feel free to contact me at the number provided below, or email me at:

thomasbauer AT sympatico DOT ca

Please also feel free to pass this notice on to anyone you feel might be interested.
And if you have any suggestions on how to make this show really stand out, please let me know.

I am looking forward to learning more.

Thank you.

Tom Bauer

I keep waiting for the chance to be interviewed for a documentary about sensible people taking prudent measures to plan for real life disasters and emergencies. Maybe even people who inject a bit of humor in that otherwise grim task with tongue-in-cheek references to zombies.

Oh wait - that's right! That kind of documentary doesn't exist and will never get made.

He should try Sweden. I am sure there may be one or two people in Sweden who may have a concern or two today.

Quote:
The Russian airforce conducted a mock nuclear strike against Sweden during war games less than three years ago, Nato has said.
The 2013 exercise, which saw a contingent of Russian aircraft approach Swedish airspace after crossing the Gulf of Finland, was one of several examples of dummy nuclear attacks against Nato and its allies in recent years, according to a new Nato report.

Based upon other such shows I am SURE that the interviewee will be portrayed & edited in a manner that makes them look reasonable and sensible. There is no way they would turn this type of show into a freak show for ratings purposes. Right?

My goodness, the unbridled cynicism, LOL

I watched one episode of a prepper show and they happily filmed the guys bunker build, the "secret" entrance from his house, the escape tunnel install and its "secret" exit.

Maybe somebody should educate this guy on the subtle but important distinction between "survivalist" (conjures up heavily armed, paranoid, anti-government loner in fortified bunker) and "prepper." The latter, with few exceptions, has more than a passing interest in ensuring the resilency of himself, his family, his neighborhood, and his community and helping the people he cares about get through the crisis and come out the other side with their humanity intact.

If you are not a prepper then " Survivalist, paranoid, anti government loner, crazy, nutty, loonie" are all interchangeable description's.

I sent him a note through the CMJ contact form with a link to this thread.

He was smart not to hunt here for his survivalist.
-
I have been to survivalist websites while searching for frugal or prepping ones - and backed out quickly.
They do NOT give off friendly vibes.
Stark black & white with graphics of gas masks, or blood red with you-can't-trust-the-government all over....
scary.
-
That isn't here.
We mostly try to help people figure out how to weather personal or local crises.
-
I wish him luck.

Preps buy us time. Time to learn how and time to remember how. Time to figure out what is a want, what is a need.

Actually, in the 80's "Survivalist" meant what "Prepper" does today, simply with an added emphasis on WW3.
Given time, "Prepper" will be deionized and used to describe scary people as well.

After all, "Survivalist" simply meant someone who wanted to survive, just as "Pepper" means someone who wants to be prepared.
Someday preppers who don't want to be viewed as crazies will have to find a new term to describe themselves....as "prepper" will mean paranoid extremist just as we view those calling themselves a "survivalist" today.

A rose, by any other name....

Sorry, I forgot to put prepper in that list. ( kinda ruined the point I was trying to make) . Don't think for a second you're not already lumped together with those other names. To somebody who is not preparing ( and especially those who never will) you are the scary people. The fact that you are posting on a Zombie related site ( no matter the true intention of this site) puts you even further over the top of the loonie bin ( in their viewpoint). Let's face it. The majority of the population not only don't prepare , but don't even like to be reminded of the fact that bad things happen that they aren't preparing for. Especially worst case scenarios. It's all Que sera, sera to them . Shame on you for even contemplating it.
