I got this in my email on Saturday and it needs to be shared with all of you:

Quote:
Kyle,

Thank you for your recent support of Direct Relief International and JACL’s Japan Relief and Recovery Fund through your efforts with Zombie Squad. When the recent earthquake and tsunami hit Japan, Direct Relief’s emergency-response team mobilized quickly. Within hours of the tragedy, we were developing a plan to help people, coordinating with local relief organizations in Japan, and activating the network of partnerships that help bring needed resources efficiently to where they are needed most.

With your help, we have already distributed $1.4 million in financial aid to Japanese nonprofit groups that are focused on helping the most vulnerable people affected by the earthquake and tsunami. You can read more about our ongoing efforts at http://www.directrelief.org/EmergencyRe ... unami.aspx .

Thankfully, contributions from the public for Japan enabled this rapid response, and 100% of all the contributions to the Japan Relief and Recovery Fund are dedicated only for that purpose.

Direct Relief’s ability to respond fast and efficiently in Japan, as it does throughout the United States and the world, is only because we conduct our humanitarian assistance program every day – usually in places that do not make the news, but are deeply compelling. General support allows us to prepare for future emergencies and respond to current domestic and international health issues as well as support our four key focus areas:

    - Ensuring safe delivery and healthier lives for mothers and babies
    - Preventing and treating diseases such as HIV/Aids and diabetes
    - Strengthening under-resources health systems
    - Emergency preparedness and response to domestic and international disasters

Our goal is to provide the most efficient and effective response to emergencies, as well as provide ongoing, essential support in healthcare work that saves and improves lives. Your support is helping us reach that goal.

If you are ever in the Santa Barbara area, I would love to give you a tour of our headquarters and warehouse distribution center. Feel free to contact me by phone or email.

Again, many thanks for your support.

With gratitude,

That's pretty nice, and it's gratifying to know that 100% goes towards where it's needed.

It would be nice if somebody could take the tour and post about it.... with lotsa pics...

Actually... Michelle and I are heading out west this fall and one of the stops will be to visit family in Santa Barbara. I'm going to try my best to squeeze a tour to DRI during the trip. I'll post pics.

Kyle,
The offer of the hearse still holds for the delivery of local raffel items, Just let me know I would love to deliver.

I just got home from work and I had a package waiting for me from ZS!

I got my dog tag and I won a raffle item - The Zombie Survival Guide.

I needed that little pick me up today. Thank you, you hard-working ZS folks. I appreciate all the time and work you guys did, but not nearly as much as those in Japan, I'm sure.

You all rock!

Hi Guys,

Got my dog tags and my prize today in the mail. It was a big surprise because I don't really have good luck.

Anyway, just wanted to say thanks.

Was just copy/pasting what was in the database. There, I cleaned up the additional text from the "notes" field.

Not that I'm anyone but thank you everyone who contributed. This is a very good thing that we did.

And a big thank you to Kyle for doing all the leg work and also to all the volunteers that helped.

:D

Ugh. Shipping to this side of the Atlantic must be expensive. You could just hold on to my dogtag, the effort is not really necessary. Unless taking me off the list is even more off a hassle than sending it out, or you already have. In which case, nevermind, I didn't say anything at all.

Thank you for the dogtag, plastic zombie figures, and t-shirt. I was not expecting any of that nor did I donate because of incentives, but I do appreciate the gifts.

FYI, I am not on the list above, but did receive a tag and a couple other nice things today. Thanks to the Squad crew for working hard on making the back part happen. It did not affect my giving that gifts came back to me, but it sure affects how I feel about the staff and members.

I wonder if the brats in the neighborhood got wind of the cool dogtag coming in the mail. I haven't seen mine yet but I'll continue to keep an eye out for it.
