Bump. These folks got their asses kicked, and right on the heels of a major earthquake the previous month. http://au.ibtimes.com/articles/522862/20131118/typhoon-haiyan-millions-filipinos-need-relief-goods.htm#.Uqp2aNJDvTo

I generally don't "do" movies. I think the last movie I went to see on my own was the first Star Wars movie. Movies are just not a big deal to me. I'll go when the wife insists, but more often than not she goes on her own and I stay home with a good book.

I will go to see this movie.

I will do it, not because I have any interest in the movie itself, but because... this:

And this is what our relief drive is for.

Wouldn't it be great if we could match that $25k?

I bet we could.

Dig a little deeper. Put back that crappy Christmas gift you were going to buy, the one they'll stuff in the back of a closet until it gets sold at a future yard sale, and give 'em a hug and a card instead. Tell them you gave ZS the gift money instead, to help these people. Stay home with friends instead of going out one night during the holidays; send ZS the $$$ you save. I dare you.

We're ZS. We can do this.

Done, I wasn't going to as I had already donated to the Philippine Red Cross before the ZS drive, but dammit it's Christmas :D

I've given via the UK DEC since this way I can Gift Aid it (whereby they get to claim back the 20% income tax I've already paid on my donation). I'm pretty sure there's no way I can give ZS the same benefit without moving to the US, or ZS setting up shop in the UK.

I am just now seeing this. I shit you not, it doesn't show up as a banner and when I did a search for Super Typhoon, it didn't come up.

OF COURSE I AM DONATING. I don't think I have missed one since before the Japanese Tsunami.

I actually used to live in one of the areas that was hardest hit on the island of Cebu. I lived there when I was 19 til I was 21 and again when I was 25. About 90% of the homes there were destroyed and many of my friends were homeless. They are a resilient and strong bunch. I am so glad to see such effort. Thank you for helping.

It has been almost three months. An update for those of us who contributed seems like a very reasonable request.

For the sake of credibility if nothing else.

Just got a nice thank you letter and a completely awesome special edition ZS dog tag in the mail from ZS.

Looks like we raised $1,500 for the Philippine Red Cross. That's $1,500 that likely otherwise would not have existed to assist in recovery efforts following this major regional disaster. Thanks to everyone who contributed and thanks to ZS for organizing this.

If I may, I'll share an excellent point that ZS staff makes in their thank you letters.

Members like you understand that a key component of Zombie Squad's mission is to help communities hit by disaster. It's only by helping our fellow humans now, while society still stands, that we can create the ties that will bind us all together later, after the inevitable zombie apocalypse brings the world to its knees.

<501(c)3 tax stuff>

P.S. The zombie we left on your back porch is free. Enjoy it.

BTW, I used my ghoul for target practice this afternoon. I was going to deliver the coup de grace, but that little bugger is so adorable, I've decided to keep him around; he's tied up in the back of my shed. Seeing how nothing bad ever happens in zombie movies when survivors decide to keep a chained undead in their midst, I'm sure this is a really good idea!

KJ4VOV, Sorry for the lack of response. This thread seems to have been neglected - but not from lack of appreciation from the drive donors.

majorhavoc, thanks for tossing up an update on the final numbers where we neglected to.

Thanks again for all your support for this drive!

If all of life went perfect 24/7 we wouldn't need drives like this. But it's not, and stuff happens (or doesn't happen), and that's just life. What counts is how you deal with it. Acknowledging a breakdown in communications and offering a public apology for it, as you just did, is good enough for me. :)
