The rear license plate is on a hinge. When it's up you can shoot out of it or toss out smoke grenades or just taunt the Zombies as you drive past/through them.
My wife says I'm a nut but she won't be laughing when the Zombies start breaking the windows in our house and I have to save her unprepared ass.

The interior photos are not as nice as the exterior photos but I'll post a few anyway:

Typical night of watching movies on the 22" screen. Still need to build a mount for the TV. I left on this 2 week vacation before I had time to fabricate something.

It's pretty spartan. Passenger seat is mounted backwards for extra living space. Bed on the left, storage on the right, ladder - to work on the solar system if there were any problems. Silver stuff in the windows is foil insulation cut to fit all the windows from Lowes which worked really well to keep heat in the van and prying eyes out.

My latest and greatest. Although I sell military equipment for a living there are some things you buy just for yourself
1985 Bombadier Iltis (Volkswagen) with about 30,000 miles a 1.7 Liter VW Rabbit engine, 4 speed with Granny Low, 4 wheel drive with rear locker. The tailgate version is pretty rare. Top speed is about 74 mph and it can tow around 1500 lbs. The weight is around 3000
My plans are new paint when i fix the fender and any rust. Maybe a nice Dutch Military camo. A 3000 lbs 4-wheeler winch. Possibly a reworked soft-top with newer style doors that seal better. I havent picked it up yet just bought it but i cant wait.
If i cant find a M416 quarter ton military jeep trailer ill see if i can find the canadian military jeep trailer that is made for it.

aww yeah, very cool. I've got one of the rare tailgate versions, but with the full length top. As you can see, she works for her living. If you have any questions, let me know I've had the entire thing apart at one point or another. And check out the yahoo group, packed full of good info.bugoutvehicles.net wrote:My latest and greatest.
I noticed your tail light mount got backed into something too. Pretty common with these bumperettes (not real bumpers, the real bumper is the rear frame rail). Remove the light and you can bend the frame back into shape with the help of a torch.
And check your tank for blue foam balls, (access under the rear deck plates). They only last 15 years or so before they start breaking down and clogging fuel pumps. Recommend removing them if you've got em.

The hummer's unrelated, the Iltis is a VW design which Bombardier bought the rights and tooling to, before selling the tooling back to VW. Belgium made some cool ones too, with diff lockers on both ends and big MG mounts on the roll bar.Crocuta crocuta wrote:we now now how Hummer came to Be.

Here's mine. 1997 expedition Eddie Bauer. 5.4L with intake, tune and longtube headers. She moves for such a heavy tank!
3" body lift, torsion crank and rear spacers.
It works for now. I'm on the hunt for a diesel excursion now.

Re: Bug Out Vehicle Porn - pictures only please

Not a picture of my vehicle but parts going on to it sooner or later.
Just got these back from the house. The one with the handle is the type commonly found on police cruisers etc. The black handle twists and translates to the head of the light, and can rotate a full 360 degrees. The only problem I have is that the bulb in this one has blown out, and the bulb is the entire globe in the light, as in all of the glass is part of the bulb. I'm having a very hard time finding a replacement. They are GE original products. If anyone knows of where I could find a replacement bulb I would greatly appreciate it. I also don't have the bracket for the outside of the vehicle that holds the light.
The second light is a standard spotlight that can be adjusted to nearly any angle. Not sure of where to put it since I have only one.
*EDIT* Aparently I just wasn't grounding the articulated light correctly. Both lights are in working order, And on the edge of my parking lor next to the woods (Darkest place I could find) I actually spotlighted a small doe. They are BRIGHT. I'm even more excited to get them mounted now. Also found the manufacturerer's website. I somehow overlooked the obvious plates on the tips of both. Unity Mfg, model S6. Very easy to find once I noticed that.
Anyway, I'll be mounting the articulated light on the driver side door, obviously, and the fixed light will most likely be mounted on the opposite side and wired to a toggle on the dash. Headed back home from college in a week, so if theings go my way I'll get this done shortly, and definately post pictures.

let me give you a warning about those pop-up style campers:
latches worked fine, dad and I took a lot of time to fix the lid when I bought it. Paid $450 for it and it had some serious rot issues. I replaced the deck in the upper bed and we replaced the hardware holding the latches on. at 65mph in Detroit the lid let loose on the freeway, tore all the canvas out with it and all my dishes and food, etc, etc. I had a few thousand miles and a couple of race weekends on it before it gave up the ghost.
previous to this weekend one of the jacks gave way while loading on to my truck and the whole unit fell in my driveway:
made a hell of a noise and scratched my truck. Also bent the hell out of the bed section and it leaked pretty bad after that. New jacks cost more than I paid for the camper. My dad and I did a lot of fooling around to get it back on my truck... I "luckily" never bought jacks because the next time I was taking it off the truck was with the saw.
since the structure was badly damaged I had no choice, dad, me, our buddy, his crane and a circular saw and about 45 mins left us with this:
I gave since upgraded:
Now I have a tv, shower, toilet air conditioner, microwave and sleeping for 5.
