So, I bought a fire truck...

Post by hailstoneMT » Tue Aug 30, 2016 12:02 pm

Hi,

I just took on a new project. I purchased a 1968 M-715 from the fire department that I work for. It has 20,000 miles and had a new engine put in 3,000 ago.

I don't have the year, but the Montana Dept. of Natural Resources and Conservation converted abunch of M-715's to wildland fire engines. It still has the firefighting equipment and it is all functional. It has been converted to 12v.

I plan on keeping it as original to the fire engine as I can. It will also be used for fire protection on our property.

Amazing. It's like somebody back around 1970 put this in a time machine and sent it to you. 20K on the chassis, 3K on the engine? She's practically brand new.

It has the 230 inline 6 Tornado engine. The pump is a BB4 forestry pump powered by a 18 hp Briggs and Stratton.

That engine was built solid, they made them for decades. It should run near forever if you treat it right. That truck is gorgeous. I don't know what you paid for it but I bet it was worth it.

Very cool truck, any chance on some pics and info on the firefighting equipment that you got with the truck?

Having just bought 40 acres in Eastern WA recently, wild fire fighting has become a topic of serious interest for me.

I've come to the conclusion that you need to build a bag for the back of this truck, loaded with graham crackers, marshmallows, and chocolate. Just for the lols.

That is awesome. Love the M715s and related Jeep pickups. 8-)

Now comes the question....do you stock it BLS or with just a first aid kit? Cause all Fire Apparatus has to have medical equipment.

There is a ammo can sized dry box with first aid stuff and some "extras" under the seat. Not a lot of room for a BLS bag in the truck.

That is a gorgeous beast!. I knew a guy who had one 25+ years ago that was all stock, with only 13xxx miles on it. It was a former Army Demolitions truck and an off road monster.

Wish I had the time and $ to get a non runner and work on it to bring it back to life- as all the running driving ones I've ever come across are out of my budget.
Always have a buddy and a backup plan!

Wow that's nice! Being a firefighter myself I'd say you got yourself quite a deal. You said 20k for the apparatus and the equipment? I'd love to get my hand on one of those!
