Don't matter if it's a Sportster, a R1200GS or a Tao Tao scooter, my attitude is you're livin' the dream, just like me on my KLR.

As to whether the wave is returned, that's another matter and frankly, the other rider's own hang ups. Motorcyclists can at times be excessively tribal, but I personally don't dwell on such silly distinctions.
HAHA down deep I agree... but motorcycles are like branches of the military, you love your brothers but you're still gonna bust their chops.

But speaking of adventure bikes, my brother just got a used Versys. I should get him to post about it (he has like 2 posts on here years ago).

I tried to get him to get this though... the Honda Africa Twin

That is a good looking bike. Like a KLR but decades more modern.

Love me some Gelande Strasse bikes! Hee's my old '09 when we lived in Germany:

Sold it just before we moved back to the US in '12 though... can't imagine riding a street bike on the roads around here. Still love riding MX though!

Nice bike! I always thought the "S" was for Sport - but it stands for Street?

Hog riders may trailer their bikes to Daytona or Sturgis, but Beemer riders dress up head to toe in Cordura before riding around the block to Starbucks...before mocking the milk crate on the back of the KLR :D

The thing about bikes is you can pretty much turn whatever you have into whatever you want. Guys have ridden crotch rocket 1000cc R1's and GSXR's from deepest darkest Aftrica, to across Siberia, or pulling wheelies on the ride to work. Weight is your enemy, and really most of those "adventure" bikes are just the opposite side of the coin to Hog's. Overweight, mostly underpowered, and way too complicated than they need to be.

No joke had a riding buddy buy a GSA when he got too old to ride his Gixxer thou, and after an hour or two bullshitting in a coffee shop parking lot...his Beemer was dead. The anti-theft key fob reading gas cap ring crapped out on him in the wilds of outer suburbia. Good thing a tow was closer than it would've been on the Road Of Bones in Siberia, lol. Not to mention the non-serviceable Paralever final drive, that is rated as "lifetime" lubricated. Which translates to it is lubricated for the lifetime of the final drive...until it isn't, and bursts into flames, and it's lifetime is over. And NOT covered under warranty BTW.

That guy took me on a dozen Canadian backcountry trips down fireroads, 180K+ total before she was more work than I had time for, dead nuts simple, but still running 1/4 mile times in the 11's before I parked her for good. And she shifted smoother than any Boxer twin :D

One of these days though I'm going to build MY ultimate adventure bike.

I don't have room for anything on my stripped down bobber. And it sucks off of pavement.

But it is fun, and I applaud anyone on two wheels that isn't a liquorcycle.

I wouldn't mind picking up a Ninjette for a traditional Cafe build. But honestly an adventure bike would be wasted on my uses.

Cool thread.

I own a 2016 Dakar rally red Honda CRF1000L Africa Twin.

If you are thinking of one they are deeply flawed in their overall design concept as a touring bike. OTOH they are quite impressive if their flaws dont bother you.

I ride dual sport, ADV, and light touring bikes. Hondas only. Long story.

I own a CRF250L Ive heavily modified (waste of money trying to turn it into a different bike than stock).
Also a CB500X. A great jack of all trades bike.
And my Africa Twin.

i worry about an EMP and the electronics in the modern bikes.

Any input on whether a modern fuel injected ECU equipped bike will fare better against an EMP than say a modern automobile?

I thought so, but mines for sale & all the offers so far have been lowball or trades. Guess I just gotta wait for the right buyer.

Dirtbikes, trucks, and guns are the one thing people either lowball the snot out of hoping to catch someone desperate... or the seller thinks their '87 F150 with rust holes is worth $18k cuz it's got "custom autozone mudflaps".

I'd hold out and wait. What year is yours?
