Bought a 1995 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4x4

Post by ZombieSoldier01 » Tue Apr 07, 2015 6:06 pm

so we had to sell the S10 ZR2 we just bought to more and more issues popping up, some where going to cost more than i wanted to put into it. So we sold it and bought a 1995 Cherokee Sport 4x4. Wasnt perfect, but off the bat I knew it had a small exhaust leak, and some leaking seals. I can deal with that. We arent doing much to it, except fixing the leaks and driving it. My kid loves driving it so far!

Well done. Love me some Jeeps.

Cool ride, gotta get some "in action" pictures! Any big plans as far as wheels, tires, suspension, snorkels go?

That's down the road a ways. First agenda is to just get it mechanically right. I am planning on a small lift with some 30's, build some bumpers and do some lighting.

Awesome! Out of my 7 Jeeps, my XJ was one of my favs. Great utility and bomb proof.

Good stuff! I've owned three over the years, an '84, a '91 2 door, and a 2001.

I would have kept buying them if they hadn't discontinued them.. ended up moving on to an Xterra after that.

as stated before, we redid the headliner in factory style color and material, and also redid the rear sound bar in that stone finish paint from rustoleum and dropped in some Rockford Fosgate speakers since the factory speakers had completely disintegrated.

That paint looks really cool on that headliner. I never would have thought to do it like that. I like it!!!!

thanks. My boy and I were talking and were debating on recovering it with the headliner material, painting it to match the outside paint (goodluck finding this color in a spray can) doing a spray on bedliner or the textured stone look. well you can see what won. He felt that would look the best and keep with the jeep theme... ya know... jeeps... rocks...

So what exhaust are you XJ or any jeep for that matter running with the 4.0? I want one with an aggressive town with no drone, and not be overbearing inside or outside for that matter. I was thinking of putting on a borla muffler with a Walker or APN tailpipe.

My xj exhaust is stock, and sometimes I wish it sounded cool, but driving it everyday and on road trips, stock is wonderful.

My brother had a flowmaster (I think 40 series) on his 96 xj. Sounded awesome at low RPM, but it droned soooooo bad at anything above 2k or 3k rpm. Highway trips required earplugs.

He replaced it with a magnaflow and it sounded good but was very tolerable. I'd recommend you start looking there.

He also ran a magnsflow on his 4 cyl TJ and I ran one on my 4.2 YJ. Sounded good on both and didn't drone. Not a muscle car, but it growled.

I would second the Magnaflow. I have had 2 Cherokees with these mufflers. One dual out and one single ( apparently after 1997 something changed in the rear end that makes putting duals out the rear of the XJ dangerous). The sound is somewhat aggressive when you hit the gas, but at a stop light it is not so loud that it draws attention.

have yall used the Performance-Curve tailpipe or exhaust kits? I was thinking of using their tailpipe but need to know what muffler setup to use, ie; center in/offset out, offset/offset, offset/center, etc

Sorry I have not. Maybe someone else here will be able to help with that question.
