CAR WON'T START: Q&A, 2000 Escort ZX2

Post by Dogan » Sun Mar 01, 2015 2:47 pm

Okay SO: Last night, drove into town, got there, car started, ran fine, nothing wrong. Parked, went to bar, friend forgot ID so went to drive him home and:
* Car won't start
* No lights come on - head lights, dash lights, radio, not even juice enough to pop the trunk
* No sound on attempt to start - no clicking, no cranking, nothing - even when jumping from running car
* Engine light is on
* Has fuel, battery is good, batt contacts are solid and not corroded, oil is good changed about 4k miles ago.

Ideas, ZS? Car is a 2000 Ford Escort ZX2.

Favorite Zombie Movies: so far zombieland because i think it accuratly depicts what a zombie could be like. not a dead becoming undead, but an infected human... kinda like a dog with raibies. even tho signs of other survivors were non existant in the movie except for the 4 main characters and bill murray...

My guess would be a bad ground somewhere or a fusible link blown.

What ausher said. Is the batt. cable still attached to the starter/solinoid? I had one the nut came off once, same symptom you describe with yours.

Make sure its all the way in park. That wouldn't effect the headlights or anything else though. Try a new battery, and make sure the leads are good. You say there isn't enough juice to pop the trunk, but the battery and connections are good? That doesn't add up. Wiggle the negative cable on the battery and check all your other grounds, Ford's get fucky when they have a bad ground.

echo what Assault said, make sure it's in park or neutral then try to jump it again. also - pull the battery and have it tested, just because it shows 12v across it, doesn't mean it has enough cca to turn over... Wait for a nice day and start chasing the wiring... :/

Double check your battery cables.

Then trace them back.

I promise that is your issue.

Being in park or neutral will not affect the lights or the runk from popping he issue is a loose wire or a blown fuse. Spent 3 years in a tow truck this is a common issue.

Clarify please: Is the engine light on or are no lights on?
