Best waterproof/air tight bottles?

Post by moab » Tue Feb 13, 2018 5:17 pm

I find these Benedryl bottles from Walgreens to be very air tight and thick plastic. What are the best containers for keeping meds (or other sensitive items) air tight and water safe?

I know to keep my prescriptions in their bottles for legal reasons. But Pharmacy bottles don't seem either air or water tight. What containers are best (and cheapest) for keeping items safe from moisture and air?

I"d be tempted to put the container in a mylar bag for long term storage.

If that is too much I'd think about putting the whole container in a ziplock bag for, say, BOB use.

Small Wide-Mouth HDPE Nalgenes: https://smile.amazon.com/Nalgene-HDPE-M ... B000P88NGU, pick whatever size you want. I have a bunch of them, and use them for various camping soap, oil, spices, etc. They have the same sealing swage as their larger polycarbonate cousins, and are thus very water/air tight.

EDIT: There are also other shapes:

etc.

EDIT 2: While they say that they are not recommended for liquid storage, I have yet to figure out why - they seems to work wonderfully for me.

I've used Soda bottle preforms for a few things.

Look around, you can probably find them cheaper. They were pretty cheap until they started getting marketed to the prepper crowd. Now it looks like a number of other industries have noticed...

I forgot about those. I have a small set in my BO stuff.

I've got a bag of these too. I put my spices in a couple of them. But they are kind of bulky and a littel overkill. I mean you could drive over them and probably not damage them. They are thick. I wish they came in different sizes and shapes.

All great suggestions you guys. Thanks.

those ARE awesome, they perfectly fit most injectable drug vials. I have two of these in my Tactical Tailor First Responder bag at work. When we have to leave the truck for a SAR call, I throw a few vials of Fentanyl, Zofran and Narcan in these tubes so that they don't break while we hike in and extricate the patient.

I use these for some of my liquid supplements and I've also kept stuff like salt and avocado oil in them. Have yet to have one leak on me, and I'm generally just tossing them into my purse or backpack.

I keep all my pills and things in a Pelican or Otterbox case.

It keeps them together, crushproof, and air/water tight.

I like those preforms though....how have I not heard of those yet?

It looks like it will survive anything! I don't think it's pricey tho.
