I am not interested in becoming a VE, so it is irrelevant to me whether or not I can give exams. There is a local club that has a good number of VEs, and they are doing a fine job of providing licensing exam opportunities.

I still consider myself capable of being a useful resource even without an Extra class license. For example, I have helped dozens of high school students get their ham licenses through the radio club I've sponsored at the school where I teach for more than two decades. I have also given seminars for ZS on ham radio for years at ZombieCon.

I like having an Advanced class license because they don't issue them anymore and as time goes on there will be fewer and fewer of us... it is something of a conversation starter when I talk to hams who have been licensed recently enough that they were not aware that advanced class licenses even existed.

The extra 25 kHz is not THAT big of a motivator to me. I could pass the test tomorrow if I ever decided to.
I survived ZombieCon 2007, 08, 09, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 and 16!!!
