Ham Radio setup on CERT vest

Post by CapsLock » Wed Nov 30, 2016 9:13 pm

Thought I'd share my radio setup that I use on my CERT vest.

I wanted my radio to A) be accessible so it's located on the front of my vest, B) have the antenna up and away from my frame, C) to be able to use my radio while wearing a respirator (i.e. not having to remove the respirator to speak into a mic), and D) to be as "hands-free" as possible without using VOX.

So far during my tests and using this vest at some drills/exercises, it has worked well and the throat mic, while inexpensive, has gotten good reports. Time will tell.

I plan on replicating this setup for my MOLLE / PALS hiking vest.

Very cool. This reminds me of what I used to run while playing airsoft and paintball. Though your setup is a lot more advanced and well planned out. I put mine on a molle vest and needed space for mags, light, sidearm, and redbull.
