That is sad indeed. I don't know how anyone can shy away from a lamb...Just about the cutest damn creatures on the planet!

I know, I guess it is just the trauma of giving birth, plus inexperience. It's usually only ever gimmers that are this way.
However, we tried bringing our dog out beside the ewe and her lamb...now our dog is a small, fluffy Pomeranian, but typically, she started sniffing at the lamb, which spurred the ewes protective maternal instinct. A few hours later we found the lamb suckling the ewe, so hopefully this was a success :)

A sharp Border Collie is the canine of choice, however we only have a fluffy Pomeranian
It still worked though :v:

Ugh one of the lambs has what I think is listeria. Fun times. Debating whether to put her down or not. Poor thing is just laying around. I've got some penicillin, Robitussin and electrolytes into it. Will give more electrolytes every 2 hrs or so. If she's not standing by tonight, I'll have to put her down :(

Show and sale time has started for another year, mr wee drop bid on a ram lamb up to 8,000gn and still didn't get it; it sold for 17,000gn to a syndicate
That's pedigree Texels for you now, if you don't sell semen off your rams, flush eggs from your ewes and then transplant the embryos into recipient crossbred ewes then you are at a financial disadvantage. However, we are farming the traditional way and long term that will be better for the Gene Pool of the Texel breed.
We have bought two nice Rouge De L'Ouest ewes, to start breeding purebred Rouge again. We've got a good sideline of breeding commercial Rouge x Texel sheep.

Here's the ram they are going to be bred with :)

It’s been intermittently rainy and warm here, so it’s maggoting weather, yesterday I witnessed a maggot exodus :|
A poor ewe had been nearly eaten alive by the wee beasties, so after spraying her wounds with silver, we drenched her with anti-flystrike pour on. Within a minute, maggots appeared from all over her fleece and jumped off her en masse, we were mesmerised :ooh:
Mr wee drop then clipped her fleece off her and gave her antibiotics and a vitamin/mineral dose. She stopped trying to bite him once she realised he was helping her
We might have to dip our flock twice a year now, we never usually have sheep afflicted by fly strike this late on in the year.
