Where in LA are you? I work out in Tustin off of Irvine and Culver...LA ain't that far from me.

Edit: I live in Cypress...it is inbetween Garden Grove and Long Beach.
I am actually in Simi Valley but I work in LA. LAFD S/M yard on ave 19 and Broadway ( minutes from downtown) by the 110 and 5 interchange.

I go to LB every so often maybe we could get some lunch sometime?

I'm down. Just be sure to let me know when you are there....I can make it to any part of Long Beach within 25 minutes of where I am. (albiet breaking laws, but that doesn't matter :D )

I second the "Bay Area" idea. There happens to be an outdoor range in my town. I haven't heard much from anyone else from up here. Cali is just too big. Origionally from NJ, it was easy to have a tri-state get-together, now I have trouble making plans for a mono-state get-together.

This didn't die, did it?

It is almost 2007, and July will be upon us in short order. What are the plans. Is there some place north of LA but south of SF where we can compromise? Some place like....Fresno (Aak, did I just say that?!?!)

Hey, if you come up to the Bay area, I could show you where they filmed "Dead and Breakfast"! (Is that worth the 300 mile trek?)

I'd be willing to do something, though I'll be with the Coast Guard by the time I can get anything settled.

I live in Apple Valley, and I don't mind driving for the most part. Have any of you spent time in the Big Bear area? Snow level is dropping in this area fast...

I've only lived in California for about 2 years, and haven't been able to explore much outside the SF Bay area.

Well heck, you are just about perfectly between SF and LA. Perhaps we should meet at Sequoia Natnl Park. I think that is fair for just about everyone, except Ricky, because he could walk there.

Whaddaya think?

Well, if no one is going to take the reigns, then I guess I will. And if I plan it, it will happen close to me, cuz that's just how I roll.

What I'm thinking, is to traverse the 28 mile Ohlone Wilderness Trail, into the Del Valle recreation area.

Start on a Friday afternoon, hike into the night, find our designated campsite (half way point). Spend the night. Hike the rest of the trail on Saturday, leading us into Del Valle. Spend Saturday night in Del Valle. Sunday could be spent on survival skills (fire building, etc), or just relaxing, swimming, fishing, boating, etc. Depart for home on Sunday.

As an added bonus, that might get your significant other to let you go...I could probably talk my wife into be a tour guide for a weekend in San Francisco (about 30 miles from Livermore). While the guys are roughing it in the wilderness, the ladies could be roughing it at a Days Inn, overlooking the Bay (according to my wife, roughing it means a hotel that doesn't have a hot tub).

Alternatively, we could do some day hiking, some camping, and go to the local outdoor shooting range.

Lemme know what you think. Comments, suggestions, etc.

I was thinking mid May, so we don't fall right in the peak season for camping.

Traverse 28 miles in two days. Then have activities on the third day? I doubt you'd have many who could keep up. You'd probably end up having a survival/emergency situation on your hands though. Might make for an experience to write about

Bakersfield.

It's the middle of California, and damn near the middle of nowhere. I actually live in Lake Arrowhead, and I would love to have some sort of get-together. Though, I'm ultra-busy. I would say that June through August sounds great.

If I were organizing an event, I'd go with a coastal event. Camping on or near the beach. Throw in some surf fishing. Perhaps some day hiking with the BoB.....

Bonfire perhaps if local law permits. I dont live near Santa Barbara, but it is fairly central. Maybe find a nearby range.... I dont know

Considering the massive amounts of wildland in California, I'd say an outdoors trip would be perfect. Perhaps a weekend trip with some hiking, perhaps some shooting, or any sort of thing. Really, as long as it is not too far from where I live.

Well, if youz guyz don't want to come all the way up to the bay, then someone needs to make some plans for down south. I could probably be able to make it down to Bakersfield, or even LA as long as I have some advanced notice, and can clear it with the wife.

I just said Livermore because nobody was saying anything.

Crap, I just forgot. I have an assload of relatives who live in the Bay Area or surrounding places. So, in that case, anything is cool with me. But I would need a month's notice in advance. As for organization for the event, we would need to consider the kind of climate we would be in and what we would be doing. I can pack for any considerable length of time.

I'd suggest two seperate events one southern and one northern. If both have a good turn out then maybe a group get together at the end of the year in a central location

Depending where I'll be by the end of the year really counts into that. It's gonna either be Petaluma or San Diego. Of course, that's my decision.

Sweet! Perhaps a Norcal gathering might just work!

Say, Z, you should go and introduce yourself in the intro thread.
