Re: State of Decay

Post by Vel454 » Fri Feb 28, 2014 12:33 am

Just picked this game up today and have been having a blast with it. I'm a 'builder' type personality and enjoy putting a lot of hours into a single game to master it (almost 700 hours into Battlefield 3, about 400 into Skyrim, 350 or so in New Vegas, etc.) I absolutely love the concept behind this game. I've arrived at the Church, have gone on a few missions to rescue a couple people and a couple supplies runs like to the vet. I've added some sleeping area outside, but other than that, have just been kind of running around. The world isn't small, really, but when you compare it to stuff from Bethesda or some of the MMO's and such out there, it's not very vast. I would love to see an all around 'larger' version of this game some day, but I definitely need to put more time into what's already there, as I'm still just scratching the surface. :D

Now if only they could make a similar feeling game of Firefly...

I'd love to see the lovechild of State of Decay and Fallout 3.

That would pretty much be my ideal game.

Well Wasteland 2 looks to be the lovechild of SoD and FO: Tactics. Maybe there's hope yet.

I've been watching a lot of videos on Youtube from MrBlack0ut81 and Frankie on Dayz Standalone. Looks amazing and seems like everything I'd want in a game. Perma-death I think is an absolute gem for an MMO. You see virtually zero aggressive run-and-gun style play from people (which isn't realistic in a survival situation in the real world). And the depth of doing blood transfusions from other players, doing stick-ups, bandits going through your backpack to take some of your stuff (or you get shot and killed) etc. It's just insanely realistic.

Wasteland 2 I'm definitely going to have to check out, sounds amazing!

A new (second) DLC will be out in June. This time, it'll have a new setting and new characters. You start out as the commander of a small military unit trying to secure the nearby city of Danforth. Looks like there'll be more emphasis on shooting, then. Also, added in is the much requested ability to load things into a truck.

Was that a Tavor?

Thank god for the loading shit into a truck. That was frustrating as hell.

I'm glad it'll be enabled in the original game, too... it always pissed me off to have these giant four door pickups that can't carry any cargo at all...

Apparently , it's sorta possible. You just have to be very, very patient.

Anyone else play Breakdown as a lone survivor, without a home base? I know it leaves out some of the building aspects of the game, but I really enjoy the challenge. It makes you really weigh the choice between an extra slot of ammo, or medicine. The desperate scavenging for some energy drink or trucker pills when your stamina is in the tank.

I set the challenge for myself to do a full lap of the map on foot. Still havent made it the whole way. Usually get taken out by hordes in the farm fields.

Just started this game and loving it more than any other RPG I've played. This is what I've always wanted in a zombie game. The only things I could want would make the game more difficult i.e. having to gather water in addition to food, having to retain magazines for the various firearms. Awesome frickin game in my opinion.

Alright, I finished Lifeline once so far and it wasn't pretty.

I have learned a few valuable lessons that are making my current playthrough much more enjoyable. I'll post them here if anyone is interested.

I finished Lifeline once, let's just say that my team was badly injured and pissed off and we left the city glowing. Tips would help.

The thing that annoys me the most about this game is the way the new pickups bounce and flip with scarcely any provocation.

I've lost count of the number of times my car has flipped, usually in a highly infested area. This is why I always train up my characters' melee skills :awesome:

Ooooh yeah, the only characters of mine that have high firearms skills are the ones who started with it.

Hell, I think I only use guns during the sieges, and maybe when dealing with infestations to take out the damn screamers.

It's on sale for $4.99 on Steam... http://store.steampowered.com/app/241540/

I highly recommend this game. It's a lot of fun!

I like this guy's tips:

Good catch on the car barrier thing. And whistling box mines would work best if you have them.

On another channel, I saw another guy use trunk space to bypass the storage locker's "price gouging." You know how the influence system works with the locker? If you put an item in, you gain influence. But if you take the same item out, you pay more. Well, by keeping an extra car near by, you can skip that for items you trade back and forth between your characters.

Say for instance, you want to leave Kilo at base with a grenade launcher, as recommended. Then, when it's time to switch to him, put your current gun in a trunk, switch to Kilo, put the GL in and take the gun. Then, quickly switch back to the previous character to take the GL.

Hell, I think I only use guns during the sieges, and maybe when dealing with infestations to take out the damn screamers.
At first, I wondered why anyone would keep both guns that Hawkes is armed with. Then I realized suppressors are wasted during sieges and alerted hordes. So if it's worth it to you, (I haven't done it) you can silence the pistol for screamers and some specials.
