Bohemia Interactive (http://www.bistudio.com/) is taking the DayZ ArmA 2 mod and creating a standalone game. Release date is sometime in the not too distant future. They say they are trying for the end of this year (or likely 1Q 2013), but will slip if it is not ready.

Just thought we should keep an eye on this as separate from the DayZ mod thread.

If they do this with less bugs, better UI, and an improved spawn solution....I'm in.

Unless you find a third-party vendor of servers and rent/lease/buy one ($), then password protect it..... No.

Sounds like they are close to an Alpha release, but not there yet. :( I remember Rocket originally said they wanted it done a long time ago, but there were design changes. It is probably for the best. There are now several games out there that are doing this style and have beat them to the punch. Putting out a weak game will likely kill it, commercially. Perhaps going for the more realism niche is the best move for them right now.

I like the item degradation he showed. However, I doubt that it will actually prevent the "shoot on sight" style of play. Bandits say they want your beans, but what they are really after is just increasing their kill count. :wink: I believe it will only force you to make more supply runs, which is not a bad thing.

The handcuffs?? :?: Maybe if it is a role-play server it could be something, but who is really going to use them? They are just going to log out. Even if the cuffs stick with your character, you just join an empty server and wiggle free as Rocket mentioned you could do in time. I hope they did not waste too much time on that.

Mine saved my laptop, but I never taxed it more than FO3 (both laptop and PC were new at the time).

Its always freaking dark.

I find TONS of packs, clothes, shovels/hammers etc.

And only rotten fruit and nothing at all to drink.

Once I found a dead body with an empty pistol and like 12 empty AR15 mags. No idea where he got the gun or mags since I have looked everywhere for them.

This is a copy paste of my FB wall, but I think you'll find it amusing.

DayZ Story

No shit there I am, just got done looting this abandoned hospital, all I found was a epi pen, nearby in a barracks I found a tac vest and M4, so I sorta look like a serial killer with this mask on.

Anyway, I see a dude nearby, looting a building, I pull out a crowbar, run over and brain him. He's wearing a helmet and escapes.

10 minutes later, I get bitten by a zombie, can't manage to kill it, frantically I run out of the building and into the same dude.

He kills it, saving my life so I can bandage

"Uhh dude, you tried to kill me"
"When??"
"Back there, at the military ase"
"What military base?"
"Ohh, guess it wasn't you, umm I'm starving to death, do you have any food?"

Now at this point, the guy had saved my life, so I gave him some, asked which way north was and we went our separate ways.

As I started to type this out, I hear someone over the chat, same dude, I was lost in the woods and he FOUND ME AGAIN.

So we team up, lost together in the woods until

"So man, I got something real personal to ask you"
"Do I need to take my pants off?"
"I need you to punch me, in the face, as hard as you can"
"Really?"
"Yes as hard as yo" *PUNCH PUNCH PUNCH*

He dies at my feet, I steal his boots, sunglasses and empty waterbottle.

I am the worst serial killer in history.

I can't seem to figure out how to get my mic to work with the game.

I have had a lot of fun with it.

I got a Mosin and finally found 9 rounds. I see this guy being chased by two zombies. I shoot them both.

Hes bleeding out so I give him some rags.

He's like 'I can't find any weapons.'

So I give him my fire axe. I mean its a nice axe, but I still have 5 rounds left for my mosin.

He picks up the axe and I tell him good luck.

Of course, this being Dayz, he charges me.

I get off one round, I think I hit him just as his axe, well my axe really, hit me.

I went down, the game said 'You are Unconcious.'. But I did not die. So I assume I killed him as he took me out.

I waited about twenty minutes to see if I would wake up, and then I just respawned.

That's what really turns me off about the game. Everyone thinks they're being terribly clever by "tricking" you and jacking you after you help them. Everyone.

Now kids, if everyone is doing it, it's not very clever and you're not some kind of hero for doing it.

If you take out the zombies I think Dayz is a great apocolypse simulation.

Its just a game, and most characters have a lifespan of like 4 hours.

If you use team work your survival chance is much higher.

But at least 90% (probably more) are willing to try and kill others, not even knowing if they have anything they need.

The biggest driving factor is the low supply of food and water.

Imagine what those people would be like in a real life survival situation.

I get what he means though, but most people would be dead by that point anyway. Even though the map is pretty damn big by game standards, areas still get really crowded.

Teamwork really is key, if I'm solo I'm more inclined not to start a fight and let a stranger go on or in rare instances team up. I've been pretty lucky though, never been backstabbed by a stranger, but usually their mic is so bad I try to ditch them as soon as I can. Ammo is so scarce that I prefer not shoot them, but we've been circled back on too many times and its just easier to not deal with em. But whenever I'm with my group we tend to just gun people down if they have any sort of weapon, usually because we need the ammo and they look like they might have some. Me and a buddy stumbled into a firefight going on in NW airfield, I managed to tag a couple guys with the Mosin before getting incaped.

Once they add in player constructable buildings and what not I think it may go a bit less kill frenzy. Right now you have nothing else to do but roam from town to town or camp high traffic areas.

Though the fact you can force feed people food and water now is hilarious, I tried to force feed my buddy a rotten orange, accidentally ate it myself, got really sick and started puking when a group of zombies attacked. Managed to make it back down to Balota to pick up a teamate who had tied just to get jumped for being dumb. I had stopped outside a hangar to drop some items when I heard the first two rounds miss, made it like two steps towards the door when the dude tagged me a few times.

I was pissed but its why I love the game. Had I not been dumb and decided to stand in the open the three of us had a good chance of either fending that dude off, or he wouldn't have even bothered.

I don't get mad at players when they kill me, either its just the luck of the dice or I made some sort of mistake that gave them the opening. I do get pissed when something happens like the game crashed and a zombie eats me before I can get back in. But its a Alpha so whatever.

Thank god they fixed that exploit that was allowing people to talk over global though.

You know, I really want to like this game, but it seems like it's erring on the side of too realistic. Blood typing? Really? And from what I hear, they should probably relax the hunger/thirst guidelines a bit. I think Fallout NV had a good balance of real vs too real on the Hardcore mode. You hat a water gauge, hunger gauge, and certain types of wounds required different types of medical care.

Ehh personally I'm a fan of the level of realism, but the guys I play with are the same ones I played Arma with. Have you checked out Rust? It might be more what you're looking for.

The bloodtyping did seem a bit excessive to me, but the guy that made it, Rocket is a pretty huge milsim fan so I can see why.

The hunger/thirst thing is broken as hell. There is no reason I should starve to death a hour or two after eating two cans of beans. From what I understand though they are addressing that as it isn't working as intended. At least I hope so.
