Just for shits and giggles I brought the 340abc that had been in my kitchen for the last 15 years out back.

I check each year when I test the fire alarm. The gauge showed green and I shook it to ensure the powder was loose. It looked ready to go.

I squeezed the handle, the plunger depressed all the way and....

Nothing happened
No hiss, no powder,nothing. The plunger would not go any further and would not retract. There was clearly no pressure. I tapped the gauge, it stayed in the green.

Obviously the defect has to do with the guage not reading the accurate pressure.

BTW the last shipment came in and those did have a return label for the defective device.

So the take away here is that when a company is willing to give you a new device to replace a ~15 year old device, it is safe to assume the old device is inop.
