Went to Hone Depot Sunday to check out a couple gennys. I'm torn between a 7k watt DeWalt and a 8k Generac. Both are push start, both have the 420cc engine and similar everything else. They are at the exact same price point $999.00 So I think I'll go with the Generac just because it does have 1k extra for the same price.

Thoughts?

Oh also went to Costco and Lowes, Costco didn't have a single genny there. Lowes didn't have a good slection, and only a single one in stock the rest you had to order and it would be delivered in a week.

If they both have similar features and the same 420cc engine, go with the one with the best quality reputation. That 1K wattage difference in theoretical output could well be explained by differences in how the manufacturer measures/markets the product's capacity. Unless you have some compelling evidence to believe otherwise, consider them to be roughly equal in capacity.

I have had a pair of Honda EU2000i generators and the 30 amp tandem panel for several years.

They have run reliably on routine maintenance and done everything that needed to be done, including AC in my travel trailer.

Downside is they aren't cheap generators. Upside is they aren't cheap generators.

I would buy again without hesitation.

I've got one as well, it is a fantastic generator. But yes, not cheap at all..... it is the same price as one of these big generators I'm looking at.

Didn't want to run my whole house, just wanted heat in the winter, a few lights, and the refrig. In dead winter, don't even need refrig, I am in the NE USA. Can put food in the garage for a few days. Also, assuming I just need a few days worth of power. I am not planning for the apocalypse. My heat is gas. Forced hot water.

Forced hot water has 3 circulator pumps, about 0.5A each.

So I heard about kipor, a direct knock off of Honda, about 66% the price.

Got the 2k. Had an electrician wire the breaker to the furnace with a manual switch that goes line, neutral, generator. And put a plug off it as well. Ran swore from the outside to this switchbox.

We have lost power 3x including Sandy. Got generator , plugged it in, ran heat, ran an extension cord to my fridge, and a light, lived on for the 3 days.

Kipor is always hard to start. I store empty, but always put stabil in my gas. I start it every 3 months to keep it going, but in the winter, I will bring it inside for a few hours to warm it up before I start it.
