FOUND! Was: Help with a knife ID, please...

Post by Mole » Wed Feb 09, 2011 5:42 am

Can anyone help me ID this knife? The logo seems so familiar but I've had zero joy with Google. I'm sure someone here will know exactly what it is. Free interwebs for the first person to get it right. ;)

That emblem is peculiar...

It has a half wreath with a moored foul anchor and what appears to be a kukri pointing up. Most dagger or knifes that point up usually mean SF, but with the fouled anchor attached it would be something similar to a foreign navy SEAL dagger... the scabbard is survivalist and diver ready... so I am going to lean with a foreign SEAL members dagger.

Where did you find the pictures? Are there any better pictures of the guys carrying it? It might be easier to ID them by other equipment they have and thus narrow the search for the knife.

They're actually production photos from the new Steven Spielberg project, "Terra Nova". It's being filmed in Australia, so going with the special forces idea I looked through their SF badges and haven't found anything close.

Thanks for the help tho guys, it's given me some other search terms to try. I'll keep looking...

Since it is Steven Spielberg, there is enough $$$ and talent laying around, it may be totally fabricated, just for the project... no?

Found it! After turning myself blind looking at 'survival knives' on Google...

It's a Spanish company called AITOR and the knife model is Commando. How very fitting... ;)

Still don't understand the complicated badge on the sheath as other knives have a stag's head on them. Guess it's to show the difference between survival and hunting knives.

AITOR produces two giant survival knives, called "Jungle King" and "Jungle King II". For a Rambo-movie-prop type knife, they aren't too bad. They come with very decent secondary blades, as skinning knives.
Really, if you want one of those cheesy hollow-handle "survival" knives that isn't utter crap, an Aitor wouldn't be the worst choice.

Downside of that, they cost close to €200.

My girlfriend has one. I still haven't figured out why, but she has one.
Off the internet until further notice.

LOL, nope not stalking. Whenever I see a "what movie/show" question I search the prop forums, and I found one with a guy named Riceball in a frenzy about this knife, and saw "Mole" working with him for an answer. 2+2=7 right.
