Assegai handle shaft diameter?

Assegai handle shaft diameter?

Post by Storm Crow » Mon Sep 18, 2017 11:25 pm

You'd think someone on teh Interwebz would have written this down already, but my digging is turning up nothing. So, does anyone know the diameter of the Cold Steel Assegai spear shaft?

I can't vouch for accuracy, this is from "customer questions and answers" on Amazon. Seems kind of slim to me.
Question:
what is the diameter of the spear socket? Im looking to make my own spear with a 1" diameter shaft.
Answer:
The end will need to be tapered, so exact shaft diameter is not super critical. Anyway 1" is what mine came with.

Question:
How strong is the shaft (how much weight can you put on it)?
Answer:
The shaft is about 1 1/4", a hardwood dowel. Very strong.

Not sure if they use the same shaft on other spears but here is the same question regarding the boar spear.
What is the diameter of the socket on this spearhead? I have a 1" diameter wood shaft that is 8' loong and made of pine.
Answer:
About 2.5 -3 inches actually. I got one WITH a "spear handle" to come with it... it was an ash or walnut shovel handle as far as I could tell. Very thick and very sturdy... but I would defintely not get a 1 inch anything for killing a boar with... and the qillions on this thing are pathetic. While the blade is more like a leaf blade sword from ancient Assyria, the qillions on the back end need to be about 6 inches longer. see less

Jacob your one inch staff will pass right through and the allow the blade portion to slide right down your shaft. The top opening is 1and1/2 and the bottom opening is just over one inch 1 1/16. My spear was purchased with the staff and it's nearly 2in in diameter.

It is a tapered shaft...1.5" to 1".
Mine came with the ash pole.
Pine may not be strong enough.

Thanks!

Yep, the Assegai uses a smaller diameter shaft than the Boar Spear.

I have one, will let you know as soon as I find it. It must be in "the pile", somewhere.
