Thanks, guys!

They're now showing commercials for my episode (next Tuesday, 8:00 CST), and it's interesting to see myself on the TV screen. The cuts are edited so quickly, that by the time I realize I'm looking at myself, I'm already off the screen. :D

It should be an entertaining episode.

JeeperCreeper - Someone posts them on YouTube, but I'm not sure how to find them. You can also buy episodes and seasons on Amazon.

I caught the promo for your episode last night, Storm Crow. It kind of irritated me that they didn't give you as much attention as the other bladesmiths. Only bit I saw was you hammering on a piece of steel and that was it. The rest of the promo was focused on the dude in the gray shirt who is led outside by the EMS crew and the guy who broke the tip off his forged piece.

Good luck on the show, by the way. It's always cool to see folks I know on TV.

12_Gauge_Chimp - I had less drama to show. There are a few other shots of me, but they're quick and some show my hands working but not my face.

Less drama is always good, Storm Crow. :D

I'm looking forward to this episode. The last Forged in Fire episode I was excited about was the one Tobin was on. I was so happy that he won that one and I hope you win too.

Tomorrow night! (Tuesday, April 18, 8:00 CST)

Here's the episode description:

"For the first time ever, the competitors are challenged with creating not one, but two blades in the first round. With double the pressure and double the work, the bladesmiths are pushed to their limits, which leads to another first–a hospital trip. After a grueling second round, the two remaining smiths have just five days to create an iconic 15th century combat sword–the Katzbalger. Which bladesmith has what it takes to burn through the obstacles in their way and become the next Forged in Fire champion?"

If you haven't watched yet, don't read this post

I was kinda scared for you there in the second round. I really wish they would have talked more about the design and construction of the two final blades. That kill test on the hog carcass was seriously impressive. Did you get to keep your katzbalger?

Yossarian - Everything we make for the show belongs to the show. I believe they film something on the order of 250 hours for each episode, which gets whittled down to 43 minutes. Doesn't leave a lot of time to show details on the 5 day build. :D Paul and I both ran into a lot more trouble than they got to show. I plan on doing a YouTube video on it soon.

I think I want to order a push blade from you now! Hahaha and I only say disappointed because the blade didn't cut ALL the way through! But I think it was operator error.

Thanks, guys!

This is seriously the best part of the episode. I laugh to the point of tears every time. I had forgotten I did this until I saw it on international television. :D

Image

What got left out was after I took a bite of watermelon and said this, I followed up with, "...and sharpening oil."

Image

Halfapint - No, I needed to spend more time on sharpening. I seriously started grinding my handle slabs with 20 minutes on the clock, and started sharpening with less than 10 minutes. I had a little bit of time at the end where I could have worked on that edge some more, but I decided I didn't want to risk messing up what I already had. That was the quickest I have ever put an edge on two blades!

I think "Trail Mix" should be the name of a blade design. Something simple, quick to forge and multipurpose. Either that or your new user name.
