Handy Tools Doubling as Deadly Weapons

Handy Tools Doubling as Deadly Weapons

Post by Corpse_of_Kraut » Tue May 30, 2006 9:55 pm

As someone who wants a career in the carpentry trade, after looking at some of my tools today, I think I found two tools I think would be handy to have on me at all times in the PAW.

First of which would be my trusty, and built to last 28oz straight claw framing hammer. This thing takes a beating, and always shows up for work. Not to mention its got decent weight in the head, and could deilver a devasting blow to the head if I was ever stuck in some what close quarters with the walking dead. Not to mention when not in combat you never know when you might need to pound something loose or into place, break glass, or pry something apart.

Another tool I would find useful is a standard metal pry bar. Its uses are implied. Not to mention its straight claw could also do some decent damage to the head of a zombie if I had to be that close.

Any other tools that you might find practical as a weapon?

crowbar
Prepare for the most likely first. Once you've got that covered THEN you can start to prepare for the worst.

When I first saw the Courtesy Home Center near my new house, I was under a fresh wave of zed paranoia (age 14-15).

Suddenly I saw the wealth of zombie killing items available to the untrained eye.

Wow... that hooligan bar looks like a handful of fun. Chainsaw would be useful, but it would seem impractical not knowing how aboundant processed fuel would be... not to mention unless our trained on its use and handling, it could just as easily be a threat to yourself and others... thats why in Canada there is mandatory training on compentency with the tool.

Can't go wrong with a hatchet...

The Hooligan tool is one of the most special and wonderful items I've ever seen.

In my 1:6 figure collection, I've managed to pick up several copies of the Hooligan tool, and it's a beautiful tool for either fire fighters or just a vigilante who wants to strike pure horror into the heart of his enemy.

The problem with the hooligan bar being used for certain forced entry applications is it need a tool to drive it home with, so we in the fire service tend to carry them with a flathead axe like so Image

The downside is this takes a second person to accomplish.

Having a friend along in the ZPAW is always good news. Having that friend armed with either a good sledgehammer or a hooligan tool is bonus frosting on the cake.

Whoops, gotta clear up a misconception here.

This is your traditional "fire axe."
Image
We call this a pick head axe, and while useful, it cannot be used with the hooligan tool.

This is the kind of axe used in conjunction with the hooligan tool.

This is called a flat head axe, you use the backside of the axe as a hammer to drive the tool. This can also be done with a maul.

The great thing about crow and pry bars is that they were build to resist. The forces involved in prying are so great, that you need a very sturdy tool for it. That means a crowbar is heavy, but also that you can always depend on it. It doesn't break. The downside is their reach length, I'dd rather fight with a long stick or club than with a crowbar, but I would have to inspect it for cracks on a regular basis.

The non-pick-head axe provides a little more utility. And considering that blunt trauma will deanimate a Zed, if your other end loses whatever sharpness it has, the blunt maul end will continue to crush skulls just fine.

how about a pen? Lots of things can be poked with a pen. Just be sure that it's metal. I carry one around with me all the time, and dont have to worry about breaking any laws.

I have a Cold Steel Trail Hawk that is about as handy as a tool/weapon combo gets. It can chop wood, chop zombie skull and bone and the hammer head pol can be used for a multitude of tasks.

In ancient Japan, people used everything from benches to paper fans to defend themselves when attacked. If you learn how to handle a pen, you'dd be a nice match for a gangster with a knife. But in a zombapocalipse I'dd pack something bigger along with it...

A pen is a good replacement for a Kubaton(sp?).

Just a note about writing implements...

No. 2 pencils are one of the most popular improvised shanks in our prison system. You don't NEED it to be metal ;)
