Had a 5 day camping trip in the mountains of Southern Nevada with lots of hiking, shooting, wood & water gathering.

Ran a 5 miler yesterday in the local hills.

Cleaned and restocked the bug out trailer.

acquired a 'not new' plane carry-on GHB-good-enough-size rolling backpack at yard sale for $2. My new physical reality is it must, small or large, also roll. I spent the day refitting it to accommodate a 1-2 day 5 mile get home time in a non-extreme event.

Replaced an old battery backup for my office computer that has been acting up. I have more good batteries spare than I do good battery backups now.

I made sure the new one uses the same batteries as the old ones. It's the electronics themselves that have finally started giving up the ghost.

I've been keeping an eye out for free used car batteries I can convert over for the same purpose. I keep being too slow responding to ads on CL, but one of these days I'll nab some.

Went on a walk on the woods with the kiddo yesterday. She's probably a little young (2.5 yrs old) but I started pointing out the different types of poop we came across, mostly deer. She couldn't tell what belonged to what, but she was getting pretty good at spotting little piles of droppings up ahead of us and running up to point them out to me.

Gonna go on a little Day camp this aftenoon and let her help me set up the fire.

Bought some stuff on Amazon to shore up and round out some of my FAKs and... Went on a hike carrying my GHB for some much needed exercise. Carried some other gear, like my hammock, just in case I made great time and could relax a bit.
GHB: http://www.zombiehunters.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=120231
Hygiene kit:

Hike was about 7 miles over challenging (not brutal) terrain. Multiple hills, probably 100 - 150 ft change in elevation. High today was low 90s and low humidity for MO. Drank about a gallon of water that I brought with me and sweated out just as much.

Shoes and socks did great. Hike took 15-30 mins less than I thought it would. Never hiked it before but the park said 1 mile an hour pace (good warning, but practically ridiculous).

Exercise is important folks!

I'm rotating my old food stocks. Lots of spam and beans and rice currently on the table.

I'll buy a few more of the magic bacon converters in the next couple of weeks to help level out our diet without wasting calories.

I was too tired to post yesterday. :D I ran 8 miles in the hills and by the time I finished it was 80 degrees. Have to start earlier!

Testing some of my area lighting & emergency gear.
Streamlining most of my gear to run of AA (single cell if possible since this also makes it easier to weed out a bad cell) due to accessibility of power source, ease of charging, and safe chemistry. Good balance of output and runtime as well.

• GE Enbrighten Lantern - 350 lumens in CW but closer to neutral tint. (I like this light so much that I'm picking up the newer 600 lumen version.) 8xD but can run on 4xD at half the runtime. I have AA->D Eneloop adapters.
• Energizer Light Fusion 2-in-1 flashlight/lamp 4xAA (Cool white but not bluish white.).
• Energizer 2-in-1 lamp 2xAA. (The lamp LED is almost neutral but the next one I bought was cool white.)
• UCO Leschi extendable flashlight/lantern 1xAA.
• Nite-Ize 3-in-1 extendable flashlight/lantern/beacon 1xAA.
• Fenix LD10 with diffuser wand (my pocket EDC) 1xAA.
• Coleman flashlight/wand in Red & Green. 1xAAA.
• Olight UC magnetic Ni-Mh/Li-Ion charger. (My EDC and bugout gear charger)
• Goal Zero Nomad 7 solar panel.
• Goal Zero Guide 10+ batter charger & power bank.
• Axing 4xAA power bank.
• Klarus XT11 Upgrade is peeking from the left side (my bag EDC)

Where do you get your motivation from? I'd love to starting running / exercising too, but I'm really, really lazy and I just can't bring myself into doing any kind of exercising.

A few things that help:

Walk before running and get some distance in. Once you get a regular routine start alternating with jogging. Also intersperse with bike rides to balance out the runs.

Peer pressure/support - get one or more buddies, join a local group, etc. but try to avoid going it alone.

Set goals. Start small with regular long walks and then sign up for a 5k run 4 - 5 months out.

Weigh yourself every day, maybe keep a record but don't skip the weigh-in.

For your first pair of running shoes get a pro fitting and learn what features to look for.

Look for free running clinics and attend a few or more.

Have fun with running! Explore your bug out routes on foot, go to areas that don't allow vehicles, bring a ham walkie talkie to listen to but whatever you do, vary your routine; switch it up.

PS: Today I slogged out a slow ten miler in the hills and enjoyed some great views too. I've also signed up for a ten mile event in October

Today I am sore because yesterday I completed another 10 miler although I was awfully slow.
Also I am working on repacking some boxed bulk ammo into steel ammo cans and building some "To Go" packs for a worse case exit out of the house.

Showed my son how to change the differential fluid in his new-to-him Jeep... Can still smell that synthetic crap on my hands even after washing them three times!

Also, rotated out the canned goods in our pantry. Some were bought back in 2012...not exactly in the real risky zone, but not worth taking a chance either.

And, may have a line on an entire pallet (!) of the civvie version of MREs from work. We have to keep enough food on hand to feed everyone in case we're locked down or otherwise stuck at work for 12 hours and these are all about to "expire" soon. Ditto on a pallet of water...

Looks like the ranch stash will get some stuff swapped out too! :awesome:

Today I practiced, in the shower, how I would actually go about decontaminating myself. It was uncomfortable, mentally & emotionally.

I also picked up an AR in 5.56. I have another rifle. :)

A couple days ago I tested self-defense ammo and gear. Found out some of my gear does not work. Found out I need to work on were I place my weapon light (kept banging up my hand).

And I need to find some good training.

Been working on a failure to feed in one rifle. It's been a good opportunity to become reacquainted with the weapon's mechanics, maintenance procedures and special tools. I've cleaned the rifle thoroughly and swapped out one part that may have caused the issue. Will have to get to a local range to test it all out.

I got nine hours of sleep last night. That is the most sleep I have had at one time since June I think.

And to think, I don't even use meth.
