I learned how to witch water. I even passed a test by finding 5 different water lines under an old airfield.

That was cool as hell

Today I am taking Ibuprofen after yesterday's 10 mile run in the hills.

After I recover some mobility I've got to clean up the gear room. Looks as if I had a silent earthquake in there.....

Picked up a 5000w Generator for $20. "Doesn't run, cant figure it out"
$12 in parts later and about an hour of elbow grease, it's running and putting out 120-240v.
Haven't load tested her yet, I wanna replace a few more things, but she's definitely looking good with no stutters... :)

I figured $20 and even $30 in parts ($50) even if she didnt run, I could part her out and make back the $. It's powered by a 9hp Honda motor. Very happy with the gamble, though I currently smell like gasoline after purging all the lines...

Finally dealing with the balance of pain vs meds, and physio and am reorganizing our preps as we are building a house on a half acre. Surveyor comes to mark the house site next week.
Bought 2 new Lifestraws, a pair of canteens to go on our 58 webbing, a saddlebag for our new pup.
I noticed a lot of our gear had been "borrowed" to go camping, so I put a lot of stuff back.
Checked batteries in all the flashlights and did the fire alarms at the same time.
I also ordered two OKC D-handled machetes, 18" for me and 12" for my partner. She doesn't have a fixed blade, yet (Valentines day?) and this will fill a few holes in until then, that a swiss army knife and a Leatherman just can't cope with.
Next I need to start caching food, but I want to wait until after our house is built to buy too much, as we don't have much room in the rental, and have about 3 weeks in the pantry, plus ingredients for baking another 2 weeks worth of breads and bars.
Whew!
Good to be back.
Gonna go vacuum then take a pill before bed...

I went through my preps and donated a couple boxes worth of extras I had to the Hurricane Harvey relief efforts popping up in my AO.

It also inspired me to organize my preps better and to start building some kits for my family members both here in West Texas and in SE Texas.

Cleaned the leftover minerals off the outside of the jars, labeled and stocked the salsa to the shelves that I canned this past weekend.

Rotated the older stock to the front... opened and ate the last jar of salsa from 2012, so we'll work on the 2014 stores next.

Still eating Apple Butter from 2000/2001. Need to can more and update that also.

Inspected my get home bag in the truck and the urethane coating inside the pack has finally let loose, covering everything in small flakes. I cleaned out the contents of the bag, updated some and put them all into another pack which is now in the truck.

Spent a few hours scrounging the range. Got about fifteen pounds of range scrap to be melted and recast and this.

Picked up my yearly supply of free range, grass fed, hormone/antibiotic free beef:

Image

This is my 5th year going with the same farmer.

This year's yield:

418 lbs hanging weight translated to 257 lbs of meat @ $4.80 a pound. I can't even find ground beef for that around here.

3/4 inch cut porterhouse, tbones, sirloins, flank and skirt. Every roast you can think of. Brisket, ribs and all the bones for stew/stock I need.

Cycling out the water in the 6 gal jugs, double checking all the preps, getting my wife up to speed with new gear I've picked up since the last time she and I went over everything. Irma's coming!

Spent a little time in the old family hurricane shelter. We haven't had to use it since '05. My Uncle has been doing the upkeep on it. Last year he rewired and simplified a lot of the electrical, so I had to reorient myself with which switches to throw to turn on the power to the lights, fans, AC, appliances, elevator, etc.

LOL. It's not as fancy as it sounds. My Grandfather, Dad, & Uncle built it behind the old dairy barn back in '84 - '85. The generator is in a little block room built onto the end of the dairy barn. Above ground it looks like a 6' x 6' shed. When you go inside there's the little elevator, and a hatch with a ladder.

The elevator (or ladder) takes you down about 10 feet into another 6' x 6' room. From there you go thru a door into the actual shelter. It's a 9' x 21' round steel tank. Just a couple of small refrigerators, a TV, AC, microwave, coffee maker, and a few other things. The little room at the far end has a toilet and sink. I think the most we've ever had in it was six people.

This is what smart people do.

Just sayin...
