So draw up a chair....

Anyway we go to Ireland... very pretty country by the way. We rent a car and drive around sight seeing. Beautiful trip all around.

There are some things they don't have in Ireland; the Sun, wide roads, billboards on the highways and chain restaurants on every corner. We are having a good time. We proceed to the Ring of Kerry and make the dash through the Gap of Dunloe. Probably one of the most beautiful places on Earth.

About those wide roads.... so the road is essentially a one lane road with pull offs for people to pull over to let other cars pass going the opposite way. There are lots of bicyclists, hikers, horse drawn carts and other cars on the road.

There is a horse drawn cart full of tourists driven by an old Irishman coming down hill towards me so I pull off in to a stop area. The cart nearly makes it by but the axle stick out and grabs the rear fender and gives it a good yank.

Oh crap.

I jump out of the car and see the coachman looking back at me. I yell after him; "You hit my car!"

He looks at me then turns around and lays in to the horse a bit with the whip to pick up the pace. That is right, hit and run by horse cart. I guess he figured I would not be able to turn around. He was wrong about that. It takes a minute but I get turned around. He is really picking up the pace now and but looks back several times and realizes I am on to him. It is a high speed pursuit at about 10 kph. I notice him occasionally drinking from a flask as we roll along and I get closer. Finally after about a mile he stops and I get out to go talk to him.

Me: "You hit my car"

Him: [reeking of alcohol] (translated and with some profanity removed) "It's your fault you did not fooking get over far enough"

Me: "I got over as far as I could"

Him: "It's your fault you are not allowed on this fooking road (not true)"

Me: "There is no sign, I would like to see your identity papers and insurance."

Him: "I don't care about you and your fooking car, and I am not going to show you my fooking papers."

Me: [Takes picture of man and cart} "I think we should call the Garda"

Him: [Punches me in chest with about all he could muster]

Me: [Very surprised, does not hurt but still taking a defensive stance]

Him: [Notices I am about twice his size and seems to have second thoughts] "You know we could finishes this with you at the bottom of the lake, I could call my family up here and that could be arranged.'

Me: "I don't think you understand what you are doing here..." He isn't even a slow Tuesday by what I am used to dealing with but I don't want to go to jail for man handling an old drunk.

He runs back to his cart and takes off. The passengers don't speak English and are a little bewildered by the turn of events. They have my pity.

So I go back to the car and we call the Garda. They come up after an expected long delay and I show them the pictures. They know him immediately.

Just like back home it is always the same people doing the same stupid shit.

To be Continued another day....

So You're saying You've been to Ireland before?
I always like reading your stories and informative posts. They nearly always have a happy ending . :awesome: ( involving firearms, blunt force trauma, fields of fire , common sense and a certain je ne sais quoi ballistics quality  )

All of my bad Irish relatives emigrated to Canada because the US turnd them away. Maybe one didn't go and you met his besotted offspring

You going to post the pictures of the fool and his cart?

Oh yes, Ireland, where even McDonalds serves real meat with no red slime. Fantastic country with so few people. Everyone is so nice. I think you found one of few A-holes there.

So as it turns out the Garda were able to locate Mr Drunken Horse & Buggy Driver. In a shocking turn of events he had insurance. Somewhere between the realization that he could potentially get a DUI and lose his carriage license (and things get fuzzy here) he fesses up and provides the information to the Garda who forward it to me and I hand it off to the lazy rental car company who had all but called me a liar straight away to my face when I turned in the car.

The rental company had charged me $2200 EU for damages to the car on my card but the charges were reversed. It just took several months for them to do so. Strange it only took them 10 seconds to charge my card so I now have another company I will never do business with again. Considering how much we travel this is their loss.

All in all a good ending with no one at the bottom of a lake.

HAHAHA "fooking"... so true, so true...

Anyways, it's scary that he still has his carriage license and avoided losing it after all that...

But hey, do you know what's in an Irish 7 course dinner??

Dunno, I always lose track after the first couple of courses. Though in my family’s case, typically moonshine instead of whiskEy...mom’s side is still living way back in the hollers of West-by-God Virginia.

And if it’s anything like my family, dinner’s usually followed by Irish yoga
