I'll stick with my AR15. As much as I'd like to keep my .357 in that situation I realize the AR would be more utilitarian for my needs.

What is the SHTF scenario? You gotta be more specific dude.

If it's zombies, I want my m4.
If it's looters, I want my m4.
If it's martial law, I want my m4.
If it's..... Ahhh Screw It!... I want my m4.

Depending on scenerio my opinion may change, but if I could only have one gun it would be a 12 GA.

I would be able to hunt bird, deer, small game, and use it for self defense in a limited capacity. also with black powder (even match heads) I could reload with found items and such. I think it's just the best all around.

Now if it's a "run and gun" for your life, I'll take the AK.

ONLY ONE? Well I'd have to take my G17 but If I got a long gun and pistol it'd be my AR and G17.

I'd go for my Rem 870, more ammo choices.

How's the saying go?

If you need a rifle, a carbine ain't as good as a rifle.

If you need a shotgun, a carbine ain't as good as a shotgun.

If you need a pistol, a carbine ain't as good as a pistol

If you don't know what you're gonna need.....You need a carbine.

For me it would depend on the situation. If I was defending a stable location, then I would want something with more punch, but if I could only have one gun forever I'd probable go with a .22LR like maybe ruger 10-22. 1000 rounds only weighs a few pounds and that will go far when living off of squirrels and other rodents. I could probable take down a deer with a well placed .22lr shot. As my bowmanship improves, I probable would have less need for a good rodent gun, so I might trade that one gun in for something else. Now choosing only one edged tool, that just cant be done.

I agree my 10/22 is really first choice. Not very Glorious but very affective also my Mark III would be my pistol choice. I could carry 2k rounds easily, I love my AR and 870 but ammo is heavy and bulky. What the .22LR lacks in knock down power you can make up for in many well placed shots.

with out a doubt I will be rocking my Mossberg 715T tactical AR-22. It's my fav rifle, and mythbusters as proven that from 450 yards, a 40 grain 22LR bullet will penetrate a Human skull..... Thats good enough for me!! Even If it takes a second shot, it will work greatly, and I can easilly carry and afford to stock a couple 1000 rounds... the perfect weapon for where I live....the opposition would have no chance.

10-22 is the only logical choice.

Ruger 10-22 H-BAR, with a good optic or a suppressed Ruger MK II with a 10 inch bull barrel and a red dot.

I like to think that I'd take my M4, but I have nearly 10k rds of .22LR. *shrug*

My trusty SKS. I have the most practice with it and it is rugged and reliable. No mags to loose, no unnecessary parts. And a big pig sticker on the end if times get rough.

A long gun. In a decent caliber. And a common caliber. That is preferably semi automatic. With a large magazine. I'd prefer an AK. If you have a choice between handgun and long gun as your only options - choose the long gun.

I actually own one and the quality is apparent at first glance. My grandfather brought it back from WW2. The only problem is I promised my Mother I wouldn't fire it. That was the 1 condition. It's a 1914 Erfurt made model. I have a picture of him with the gun in Pilsen , CZ. He also brought back a P-38 in a very elaborate Nazi Holster. I can't prove it but everyone knows my scumbag cousin sold it for drugs.

Oh and to obey the thread Gods I would choose a double barreled sxs shotgun with 2 triggers. I have a Spanish made one in 20 ga but I would prefer a British one in 12 ga.

I didn't write this. So don't get your panties in a bunch. But it does hold some wisdom. To the OP the "*"'s or asterisks pertain to your current question.

"Rules for a Gunfight

1. Bring a gun. Preferably, bring at least two guns. Bring all of your friends who have guns.***** (To the OP. I personally think when you bring up an end of world scenario it has to be which long rifle and which pistol do you want. No one goes in only using one. Just MHO.)

2. Anything worth shooting is worth shooting twice. Ammo is cheap. Life is expensive.

3. Only hits count. The only thing worse than a miss is a slow miss.

4. If your shooting stance is good, you're probably not moving fast enough or using cover correctly.

5. Move away from your attacker. Distance is your friend. (Lateral and diagonal movement are preferred.)

6. If you can choose what to bring to a gunfight, bring a long gun and a friend with a long gun.***** (Thus my choice of a long gun. I mean really? Is this a debate? It's gotta be long gun over pistol everytime. Right? And especially in this scenario.)

7. In ten years nobody will remember the details of caliber, stance, or tactics. They will only remember who lived.

8. If you are not shooting, you should be communicating, reloading, and running.

9. Accuracy is relative: most combat shooting standards will be more dependent on "pucker factor" than the inherent accuracy of the gun. Use a gun that works EVERY TIME. "All skill is in vain when an Angel pisses in the flintlock of your musket."**** (To the OP. Thus my choice of the AK.)

10. Someday someone may kill you with your own gun, but they should have to beat you to death with it because it is empty.

11, Always cheat, always win. The only unfair fight is the one you lose.

12. Have a plan.

13. Have a back-up plan, because the first one won't work.

14. Use cover or concealment as much as possible.

15. Flank your adversary when possible. Protect yours.

16. Don't drop your guard.

17. Always tactical load and threat scan 360 degrees.

18. Watch their hands. Hands kill. (In God we trust. Everyone else, keep your hands where I can see them.)

19. Decide to be aggressive ENOUGH, quickly ENOUGH.

20. The faster you finish the fight, the less shot you will get.

21. Be polite. Be professional. But, have a plan to kill everyone you meet.

22. Be courteous to everyone. Friendly to no one.

23. Your number one Option for Personal Security is a lifelong commitment to avoidance, deterrence, and de-escalation.

24. Do not attend a gun fight with a handgun, the caliber of which does not start with a "4"."*****( Enough said.)

Some of this makes me laugh too. It just sounds like something John Wayne or 007 or somebody would say to a young man. P.

At the moment I would go with a glock cause I'm far more competent with it than a rifle. I've recently been investing in ARs, so my answer might change in a few months. I know a rifle is inherently superior in most situations than a handgun, but my two decades experience with the glock trumps my few months experience with the AR. Even the entire concept of a safety on the side of my weapon is still wierd to me. The glock goes bang every time I pull the trigger. The AR rolls it's eyes at me and asks if I'm going to take it to dinner first.

Getting the same grouping at 200 yards with the AR that I get at 50 ft with the glock is pretty awesome, but it doesn't help if I get shot while fumbling with the less familiar rifle.
