Zombie Grizzly/Brown/Black Bear

Post by stefan2004 » Tue Dec 08, 2009 12:44 pm

What would you do if you encountered a large zombified bear?

(you can choose the setting e.g. steets, field..etc)

In no real order:

Scream
Soil myself
Climb a tree
Beg for help
Dig a hole
Run around in circles yelling "We're all going to die!"
Faint
Scream
Yell
Plead for mercy
Die

Soooo, basically the exact same thing I would do if I encountered a non-zombified large bear. Either way, it's a fucking bear. Florida bears are small enough that while I would probably still lose a fight with one, I'd be giggling as it mauled me because they're so small. But, like, a big angry grizzly? If I didn't have a gun on me, I'd just have to accept the fact that I was royally fucked. And then die.

Assuming i've bugged out i'd likely have my AR and my G26

if 30 rounds of 62 grain penetratior can't kill it i'm fucked

If i'm bugged in i'd go for my garand. its hard to argue with 30-06

if a .450 marlin can't do it your toast

+1 to that, its even better if its a 500S&W rifle, like the one i have.

most likely I'd get killed after screaming like a girl and running away.
if I had a my 500S&W rifle I'd shoot it a couple times.

A zombie grizzly bear...

Yeah, I am pretty much tracking with the "I'm fucked" crowd.

I think the only thing scarier than that is if he had a fricken lazerbeam attached to his head. :|

I don't see a zombie bear as a more significant threat than a live bear. A live bear can run far faster than a human, can climb trees, and is very capable of eating me. A zombie bear, if anything, is less of a threat. Zombies are usually less coordinated, slower, and less intelligent than a living creature. If I had to choose between a live bear that wanted to eat me and a zombie bear with the same intention, I'd take a zombie bear hands-down. I am assuming, of course, a Romero-style zombie bear.

Oh really now?
There aren't many rifles floating around chambered in 500 S&W, is it a Handi-rifle or something else?

Well, ideally I'd have one of the two guns I own that I'd feel at least remotely comfortable trying to kill a bear with - the .357 Mag or the .30-06.

If I was unarmed...well...then I suppose I'd make my peace, prepare to die, and run like hell.

I don't think a .357 will get it done. I don't even know if a .30-06 would work, however, a .45-70 would keep my mind at ease.

many many bears have met there maker by the long arms of the 30-06

I'm sure quite a few have been taken with .357's too

a 30-06 has a flatter trajectory meaning i could take said zombie bear out +400 yards if i could see it

a 45-70 has a "rainbow arch" that takes a lot of practice to be accurate with +200 yards.

When it comes to bears i'd rather be the "sniper of the roof that all ready saw ya'll"* then in CQB any day.

I agree...I doubt any of my guns could drop a bear. I just meant that the .357 and the .30-06 are the only ones I'd even attempt to shoot with. All the other ones...I'd just throw down my weapon and run away as fast as I could.

I would use the following, it would not matter which I would grab, but these would be my options.

Turkish Mauser 8mm

M44 Carbine with 7.62x54 soft nosed ammo

Marlin Supergoose 10 gauge slugs

Remington 870 with Polychoke set on Slug-use slugs followed by buckshot

Thompson Inline ML .58 Caliber

Worst case would be my 20 Gauge with slugs and buckshot

If my dad were with me, his 30-30, and SW 629 44 Magnum

I respectfully disagree sir. A normal bear of almost any bread might just walk on by. You have a pretty good chance of being spotted by a bear and nothing happening.
A zombie bear, "Romero" or otherwise, will wish to feast on the living no matter what. You aint gettin out of this one. Where I live we see Black Bears almost weekly. No one does anything about. But I have heard stories of a rabies infected bear somewhere (not where I live, just something I heard) that was a huge problem involving all aspects of Law Enforcement.
