Curious!

- You are at home and there has been plenty of talk on the news about the possibility of a group of rebels becoming an ever increasing threat of attempting to over through the government. They have a large following and backed by a powerful country with similar beliefs/morals etc.

- You are strongly against this group, but breaking news has just come through stating they have successfully overthrown the government and have issued a very direct message of fight with us or die! This has never happened in modern day history the way they have gained control in an almost immediate way.

- They are brutal, powerful and will torture and execute you and your family for even talking about fleeing or fighting back, you have to agree with them, you have to fight for them and you have to promote them at all times, or you will be found and executed.

- You know of a few other preppers in the area!

- You don not want to be part of this new government/uprising.

What do you do, and why?

Block the roads with a forest of abatis, coordinate with friends, and make them assert local dominance.

Some things are worth fighting for.

There's always the chance of feigning allegiance while coordinating efforts against them to buy yourself time. I am lucky to live in a neighborhood full of people who are of the "just leave me the f*&% alone" types, they would not take being forced to choose any sides lightly and the neighborhood may quickly become a different place as roads are blocked and people start pulling out their guns.
Also, there's the very good chance that this sudden overthrow of the government is simply propaganda efforts by the rebel group. They're not all powerful, and the US is a very big place, not such a simple thing to occupy everywhere at once.

Edit: I realize some may think it ironic that I have "join, or die" as my avatar, but that comma is there for a reason. It means: join, or we're all gonna die separately.

I would pray for them and that they would realize the error of their ways, that one should never attempt to take over the most armed country in the history of mankind . And if the path of their enlightenment sends them into the sights of the over 300 million firearms owned by the citizens of this country, I would pray for their soon to be departed souls . :twisted: :wink:

don't really care, I wish them luck in my town...because we have one of the largest bases of the Australian Army in our town...not to mention army aviation (helicopters) and an air force base.

For anyone who doubts this, this group has stated they will torture and execute you for even speaking about resisting. No trust whatsoever should be placed upon this group, for now it's just if you resist, maybe tomorrow it'll be all those with brown eyes or red hair. Well in the long run I'd probably die but seeing how that's going to happen one way or another I'd just as soon go out standing up for what I believe in. Maybe with a little luck, creativity, and a decent helping of savagery I can convince a few that their cause just isn't worth it. My main concern though would be trying to protect loved ones if possible.
Those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it, & you can bet they'll whine that nobody warned them.

Seeing as how I'm screwed no matter what I do, I'm going with the fight back option.

They invaded my country, threatened the lives of my fellow Americans, my family and myself. They chose to invade the most heavily armed country on the planet and expected the citizens to just roll over and take it. I'm going to team up with my fellow Texans and wage war against these idiots. Sure, I might die fighting, but I'd rather do that than live in fear for the rest of my life. I might die, but I'd try to take as many of the invaders with me as I could before I did.

There's a famous saying about invading the mainland US that goes "An invasion of the mainland US can never happen. There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass."*

*I forget who this is attributed to and I'm probably getting the saying wrong, but it still makes sense.*

Based upon this statement you should assume you and your family are dead regardless of whether or not you cooperate or fight. A group that has succeeded this quickly, with this philosophy, means it has only a ragged hold on power and will seek time to consolidate power through brutal methods.

There are many examples of this throughout history (for example the French Revolution, Khmer Rouge, Cuban Revolution and ISIS)

They will seek to quell any opposition by first killing off the logical opposition, i.e. those high in the previous government, military officers that were captured, local officials not in their ranks. This will be done in such a way to intimidate anyone who may have doubts about their power.

They will either rapidly consolidate power or fail.

If they consolidate power they will proceed down the list from logical opposition to tertiary opposition (troops in uniform, LEO and state workers) then on to vocal detractors, then to people who may not express enough enthusiasm to finally those who they think are committing thought crimes. The leadership at this point may even turn on its loyal followers who may think that the current path is not correct.

As for what I would do? I would use Jack Hinson as my model.

I doubt I would be as skillful as Mr. Hinson, but ... f'em... let them come and get me. We would soon find out.

Seriously, tyranny or death? That wouldn't fly here, you'd have to do it more subtly than that. Over decades. Slowly changing this law and adding that law, and tax, and program, until you're in bizarro world, but no one knows their reality has flipped because their history books have also been rewritten and what is taught in class and is broadcast in the media has also been slowly subverted for decades.

Thanks for the story on Hinson! I hope that the memorial signpost in the picture survives the revisionists who are trying to wipe out historical Confederate monuments. I don't agree with the Confederates but neither should we allow the hand wringers to destroy all records of the past that they cannot deal with.

Politics and everything else aside. If I were in his position do hope I would follow in his footsteps. If you are a hostile force coming in and execute my family, there will be much hell to pay. I hope to be even half as effective as he was. To step just a little bit into the politics of it I don't think he's really a confederate, just a man exacting revenge on people who did him wrong.

I agree that is why I offered this example.

He was a man of wealth who could have dealt with this differently.

Instead he basically gave up everything, spit on his hands, got out a can opener and opened a can of whoop ass.

My one caution to this approach is that when you seek revenge be sure to dig two graves one for the victim and one for you. In this case he did just that by giving up everything.

The flip side to instance is that some things are worth dying over.

Of course we are talking about the topic at hand, if a hostile foreign force were doing this. If that was the case I doubt I'd come out a live. But that's the saying if you seek revenge dig 2 graves one for him, one for yourself.

Except in the case of Jack Hinson , that Raptor used as example. When they burst into his home asking whose side are you on? His reply was, mine
