Site Bug Report Thread

Post by crypto » Thu Nov 24, 2011 11:32 am

All:

Thanks for your patience while we migrated our site from a bad hosting company to a much better one, on dedicated hardware.

Unfortunately, we on the ZS Admin Team still occasionally dick things up, and so we've created this thread for you to note things that have broken since the move, so we can try to fix them ASAP.

Please let us know whats still not right, and we'll try to make it right.

The first bug that we know about is as follows:

deep site links to threads wont work for a few days until the DNS wierdness sorts itself out and we stop using new.robotsquad.org to point here.

That's great to hear! Going forward let's try to keep the signal-to-noise ratio at a minimum, and use this thread solely to report problems. We'll make sure to give the admins their due accolades later. :D

Correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't links work in the short term by replacing http://www.zombiehunters.org" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; with new.robotsquad.org in thread urls get someone where they need to go?

ex.

http://www.zombiehunters.org/forum/post ... &p=1932111" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; changes to http://new.robotsquad.org/forum/posting ... &p=1932111" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;?

Yeah, but I'm not doing a global search and replace on every post in the database for something that's gonna resolve itself in a couple of days.

Cool. In the meantime, if I run across a thread link, I'll replace zombiehunters.org with new.robotsquad.org in the address bar to navigate around. This is one bug we can handle in the meantime, Whisk.e

Clear your internet cache, maybe?

Hmmm... I'll try it, but that would be really weird if it works. Usually with something like that it would show old images but not new ones until the cache was flushed.

Fixed. It wasn't my cache. The avatar was missing on my account here so I uploaded it again, and the sigpic was on another forum that I'm not on any longer, so I uploaded a copy to my own server and linked to that in my sig instead.

Possibly a DNS caching issue, I noticed that the first few times I refreshed pages via F5 after the change-over, my browser was still trying occasionally to reach out to zombiehunters.org even though I was hitting a robotsquad URL. This resolved itself for me pretty quickly though.

Does this mean that we will be going back to http://www.zombiehunters.org" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; after the internet gods have slapped some sense into the DNS servers?

Forgive my lack of knowledge but this is one of many areas where I am clueless.

Edit: whisk.e.rebellion answered this in the OP of the "ZS Forums and Website Down for Migration" thread.

I'm having some trouble with the redirect page. To get here this morning, I had to type in the new.robotsquad.org url directly.

I imagine it may be because the redirect page is still on the old host's servers. Am I correct?

Correct. Sounds like the old host is still crapping itself.

old login link, I used to use

http://zombiehunters.org/forum/ucp.php?mode=login" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

& where I am required to sign back in again for the second time...

the new login link:

Are you allowing cookies for robotsquad.org?

This is most probably the reason.

Once the DNS servers have got themselves sorted out we will be moving back to the zombiehunters.org url.

Working well for me, getting email's when a new PM or request to group is made. Not a fan of the new URL but I just like to bitch

It does run a lot better though, 100% improvement over that maggot ridden horse we were using, feels like we upgraded to some sort of pack animal that isn't pissing on it's self while biting those near it on the ass.
