Acronym /abbreviation suggestions?

Post by ghostface » Fri Sep 02, 2005 3:58 pm

We are toying with the idea of a "glossary" of sorts for acronyms/abbreviations that people new to the forums often do not understand. What acronyms/words do you:

A) think come up often enough to warrant inclusion?

And/or

B) perhaps don't understand fully yourself, or would like clarification on?

I'll start with the basics:

PAW- Post-Apocalyptic World
TEOTWAWKI- The End of The World As We Know It
SHTF- Shit Hits The Fan (i.e. worst-case scenario, perhaps leading to a PAW or TEOTWAWKI).

BO...- Bug Out/Bail Out. Basically 'get the hell outta dodge' when bad stuff happens. BO can be attached to a variety of letters in this manner (e.g. BOB, BOL, etc.)
BOB- Bug Out Bag (AKA "go bag"). In essence, your means of carrying your survival equipment. Military style "assault packs", Hiking backpacks are examples.
BOL- Bug Out Location. Your planned destination if something goes down. Optimally, you've already got it stocked with what you'll need in a crisis.
BOV- Bug Out Vehicle (less commonly it can mean Bug Out Vest for those who choose vests over bags). Your means of travel to your BOL/through the wasteland that our world has become.

LEO- Law Enforcement Officer
MIL- short for Military, either as a descriptive term for gear or a current/former member of the military.

ZS- Zombie Squad. Both the overall name of the Organization and a denotation under the username of the "core" members in St. Louis who started it all.
ZS-R- Zombie Squad Reserves. A denotation of under the username of those who have completed an application.
***- Asterisks under a username indicate the number of posts a user has made; the more asterisks, the more posts.
Avatar- in case you are new to this here innernet, it's an optional picture that appears under your username.
The tools of conquest do not necessarily come with bombs and explosions and fallout. There are weapons that are simply thoughts, attitudes, prejudices, to be found only in the minds of men. For the record, prejudices can kill and suspicion can destroy, and a thoughtless, frightened search for a scapegoat has a fallout all its own...

Don't forget RAL-Romeo Alpha Lema meaning Re-Animated Lifeform (Zombie).

To be distinguished from "ZS Donor 'NOLA" ... I have to admit, when I came back on Tuesday, I had no idea what that was supposed to mean. So much stuff happens when I go away for a weekend.

Not really an acronym... but shorthand, sort of:

Has "I love zombies" replaced +1, meaning "I agree with the comment previously posted"? If so, I must have missed the memo announcing that change.

I think it was 'cause kyle hates "+1" so he had it auto filtered.

I tend to use ZPAW (zombie PAW), HoZ (Holdout zone) and BOZ (bug-out zone) a lot, so if anyone's wondering what they mean in any of my posts, there it is.

No, he said he would do that, but the filter can't handle the "+" sign, so we just did it to mess with him and the newbies.
