(Fair warning - I use strong words below - because I'm about to go off. Seriously. You were warned. Apologies in advance.)

If you read through my many many threads and posts on this forum you will see that I am a pretty level headed person. But this has got to be fixed - once and for all.

I know there are other threads about this. Actually one just below here. And I've started ones myself in the past. But what I have to say deserves it's own thread. And to be heard by the admins/owners.

This has been going on FOREVER. Thus my rant below. Again apologies in advance. But every other forum I belong to has NO PROBLEM getting their notification system to work. So you have no excuses:

****Why can't this site subscribe you to a single damn thread? Really upsets me. Just venting here. But this type of thing keeps me from donating again. Get your stuff together admins/owner. I participate a lot on this site. But less so because I can't get a single thread to let me know of any responses. Wonder why people don't come back? Cause they don't know anybody gave a crap about their thread they started or responded too. Cause the subscribe button doesn't work!

This is a problem that has to be fixed or this forum is just going to die. Who will come back when they think no one cared enough to respond to their post or thread?!

Can we get a once and for all fix for this? How much do we have to donate for that to happen? Yes. I said it. Maybe once people stop donating and coming here you'll fix the issue. Until then don't be surprised when the forum doesn't grow and membership falls off.

I'm sorry for the above rant. But I love this forum. Seriously I do. Which is probably why this upsets me so much. I've complained about three or four times about this. And nothing ever changes. and we never get a serious response. I'm seriously considering donating my precious time some place else. As I honestly feel sometimes like all I'm doing is helping the owners sell more water bottles.

Ya. I said that too. And I'm sorry. I love this place as much as anybody. Look at my post count. Look at my thank you's. I'm a long time contributor. That has spent a serious amount of time contributing to this forum.*****

PLEASE FIX THIS PROBLEM?! It's the very basis of how a forum works. How do you have a conversation when you never "hear" anyone respond to your words? Think about that for a minute. A forum doesn't work without it.

I agree, it is annoying when I miss a day or two come back and a question I asked was answered. But I didn't know about it. Or when my favorite stores (which drive a lot of traffic gere) updates and I don't see it for days!

Hope it gets fixed. Please.

I don't post much, but I have been here for a while. I would appreciate this being fixed. I don't want ZS to fall by the way-side. I need ZS.

I don't think any of that has worked since I've been here ,so I don't miss any of it.

It would be nice if Notifications worked again.

Or if just one of the mods jumped in here and had anything positive to say. Or even an explanation.

You've built a great forum here. That people love to contribute to. That's not gonna continue happening without knowing you've received responses to respond too.

For the record, I did not get a single notification from this thread. And I started it.

Don't mean to sound so harsh. But...

I'm sensing that the meatspace side of the ZS staff organization has dwindled significantly in recent years and this lack of responsiveness here on the forums might be related to that. Have you tried PM'ing an actual moderator?

I while back I recall that I had a response from a ZS tech admin who had flushed out the notification system and subsequently I had a flood of alerts. After a week it died again.

For the life of me I cannot find the PM or post. AFAIK Mods are just mods and cannot do anything that requires s/w fixes..

I don't know that it's dwindled or not. They have expressed that the forums are a low priority compared to the meatspace organization in the past.

Who wants to get emailed every time someone posts anyhow? Bugs me...

I want notifications for these:

    Bug Out Gear Deals
Story threads such as "Dead at Destitute Mountain" or "An Unwelcome Development"
Threads that I started and invested a lot of time in
Free ebooks: Fiction. PAW/Zombies and Free Prepper Ebooks which are time highly sensitive

Yep!

But I guess that's almost beside the point, isn't it? Unless the webmaster actively monitors this subforum (and I think we can all agree that is NOT happening) then the question boils down to: OK, the mods aren't responsible for fixing software glitches; we get that. But do the mods know of any good way to communicate with those who can? Or is 'Ask ZS' just window dressing?

I know it's beating a dead horse, but what *I* do, is make a comment in the thread. If I can make a relevant comment, great, if I just want to watch the thread, I've posted an "Obligatory subscribe post". Then those threads can be checked on log in by clicking "View your posts" under the user control panel (In Subsilver2 theme). Should give you egosearch (nice name btw  )

search.php?search_id=egosearch

Mods can only relay the messages, it takes Crypto or Jnathan to change things / back end work. Though I think at some time Woods Walker used to be able to...

I admire your dedication to wielding the bat, but that still means that for time sensitive stuff I have to go in and manually check ZS. For my email I get alerts.

I received in one sudden batch 143 (old) notification emails about topics or PMs from a month ago. I can't say if they are ones that were never sent or if they were duplicates.

While I hate the interface, would tapatalk be of any help? I haven't used it for years, hated several aspects of it, so went back to mobile web browsing, but I don't know if it might have a proprietary notification system which works better than the house brand.

I've grown greatly disappointed with HQ and their interaction with us. One of the members in Ontario never received his lifetime membership card, after over a year of emails sent by our past president and myself to no prevail. I don't think any of the chapter three members use the forums anymore because it is not what it once was.

Based on what board members have said and implied over the last few years, this forum is an embarrassment and hassle to them which they wish would go away. As such I don't expect them to maintain this place. Protestations of being politics or dogma free aside, there is a bias from the "meatspace" and "core" members that is easy to spot.
While I like checking out what's going on here from time to time, this forum has long ago jumped the shark.

Feel free to PM the board members and programers. They are the ones in red at bottom of the home page. That is also where the board stats are displayed so everyone can the level of activity.

Not even going to touch the moderator pool, as it's just as dismal, and I thank the active mods for EVERYTHING they do to keep rolling this stone to the top of the hill.

Now, if Admin/Board are running sock puppets, fine, but say you are and interact, but personally, I think they have given up on us.

Unfortunately I'm in agreement with you. If the admin/BOD has any long term plans, it'd be nice to hear them.
