I'm stuck in chat limbo. All i can seem to do is talk to myself. It worked the other night but now I cant seem to join right. The chat window says "From #ZombieSquad to Napalm". From what I remember I thought when it was working it said "From #ZombieSquad to #ZombieSquad". Since I can't get it to work again I have no idea what is wrong. (maybe it's just me) Could someone please help? I followed all the steps listed here, did the /join #ZombieSquad thing and still i can only chat to myself. I do know that I show up on the chat because I checked it using the java thing on the chat page.

Looks like there's no way for Mac users to use chat? Trillian isn't offered for Mac yet, Gaim/Pidgin isn't Mac supported so there's no package offered, and the Java Applet goes nowhere.
I'm curious why we can't login with other chat programs, why special ones are needed.

edit: was able to get in on a Mac using ChatZilla. NOTE: can't use punctuation in your nickname.
Also, re: Medic's earlier post:
there is no "global settings" in the IRC menu if you're on a Mac. Instead you have to go click on the IRC window, then go to FIREFOX preferences > Global Settings (left column) > Startup Tab > Auto-Connect URLs
Once you hit "ok" you can't hit "apply". "ok" closes the window. You'll need to hit "apply" first, though I don't know why you'd need it if you hit "ok".

I don't know diddly about mac's, but here's a bunch of IRC clients for them.

thanks, phil_in_cs. :D
I just got confused and thought we could only access the ZS chat through the clients mentioned.
I was able to get in ok with ChatZilla thus far. :)

edit ....oh, then was promptly booted for "flooding" because the IRC interpreted a line break as a post submission and delivered 4 posts in a row when I was asking a question. so fun.

Yeah just don't do it too many times in one session or you'll get K/B'ed.

*L* yeah, apparently the IRC client differentiates between line breaks and post submissions, but the ZS IRC bot does not.

I dunno. I get kicked about 2 dozen times for that on any given session, I dont think it cares.

freenode, which recently banned mibbit connections, has their own java client you can use from a webpage, for you compu-lazy folks out there who don't want to mess with downloading a client, installing FF addons, and all that jazz.

logout button is on the topright of the page directly underneath the boxed stylized zs - zombie squad logo
as for the refreshing, does this happen on other sites? or just zs? if on multiple sites, i'd try resetting your internet source (turn off your box [ya'know the whatchamacallit] by unplugging it and let it set for about 10 seconds then start it up and you should be good.
if just zs, try a different browser (firefox, internet explorer, etc)

I feel like an idiot for asking this. I can't even find the chat area on here. Where is it?

Using Trilian Astra, I typed in the channel, my nick, the Server ... and now? No zombie chatter to find.

To find us on IRC, select the "Chat" link on the right side of nearly any window within the Forums; to make things easier he's the Chat link embedded in this reply. Since the IRC channel is on the Freenode IRC network, I'd look at their documentation for getting connected which you can read here.

You can use a variety of IRC client programs to connect to an IRC server (or server network), and as Phil already wrote there are LOTS of them that run under OS X.

We've tried to make it clear on the ZS Chat page that the ZS IRC channel and the ZS Forums are two completely different things. If you're more comfortable communicating via the chat thread, then we're happy for to provide that option for you. :)
