A large explosion has hit near government headquarters in the Norwegian capital Oslo:

This may or may not be a terrorist attack. It's likely, but there's no evidence yet.

That sucks. I'll be watching for more info, good luck to the people injured and the first responders and medical teams.

No-one has said they were behind the attack.
No other evidence in the article that it was an attack and not a gas explosion or something, but my guess is that they already know it's an attack. Car bomb, maybe?

Cui bono?

I have a norweigan friend visiting atm so we're watching this closely. Apparently the police have confirmed that it was a bomb that went off. There's a lot of contradicting statements about wether there are more than one bomb.

I can't find any official confirmation that more than one explosion has occured, but windows more than 1km. from the site are broken.

Article in norweigan.

This is pretty big news in my book. People in countries that one would think of as being kind of immune/removed from terrorist activity need to be aware.
I'm certainly going to be extra vigilant as should everyone in Europe.

I'd be very worried if this turns out to be Libyans...

I would make a comment, but it woult end up severely racist and political, so i`ll just say that my thoughts go out to the people in Oslo right now. And i`m getting myself a gun.

If you can keep it from being too bad, we'd love to hear the thoughts an opinions from someone who is there.

I have friends in Strommen, which is just east of Oslo. I know he works in Oslo though. I tried to call them, but the lines are busy... My guess is the phone exchange is overwhelmed. Being an oil exporting country, I have to wonder is this from the "normal" terrorists? I also read the Oil ministry was targeted, as well as the PM's office.

Not in oslo, about a day`s drive away in fact, in the cold north. The general mood on comments on newspapers are taking a bad turn, would hate to be middle eastern looking today, that i can say :( Now theres been a shooting incident with a fellow dressed as a police officer not far away. I`m not going to trust anyone who looks foreign from here on, thats damn sure.

Going to read up some, and see if i can come with an overview from the newspapers.

2 confirmed dead. It could've been worse. Given Norway's unique immigration situation, I'm betting the "normal" terrorists are at work here, but it's just a hunch.

Just watched a press conference witht he acting Chief of Police.

The police confirm that the explosion was a bomb, at least 2 people are dead and at least 15 injured. SAR is still ongoing, The Oslo PD has requested assistance from other Police departments in Norway and also from the Norweigan Defense.

The bomb may have been placed inside a vehicle but this is not yet confirmed.

There are so far no suspects and no motive is known.

Other locations are beeing evacuated following suspicions of other bomb.

The Police will attempt to update the press every hour until further notice

I can see who the usual suspects will be for obvious reasons but on this occasion I get creepy feeling a far right wing group did this and the attack on the labour party youth camp, the labour party are the leading party in government as well.

You don't have to import terrorists.

Fucking Nazis dude. :(

Nope, could be home grown, but getting an idea from a source in norway is useful perspective.

Please stop with the baseless speculation. Nobody has claimed responsibility for anything, and to throw around accusations randomly is both disingenuous and frankly rude.

More of the same will be viewed as politics and/or religion, and certainly hatefulness. If you have actual sourced information, that is lovely. If not, please don't bother posting.

I have been to Norway visiting family and it's a very progressive and liberal society, that's why they tolerate the loonies

Is the fake police shooting (for which I can't find a source) the same one that is the youth shooting?

Got a call about this when I was a the range today, and spent some time there listening to the radio and checking news on the phone. Just got home now, and and I'm watching the news unfold.
The shooting at the Labour party youth camp is still ongoing, the police are gearing up as we speak. It's said that the shooting is done by a man in a "police uniform" using a pistol. At least 5 people hit. The camp is held on a island, and the kids are trying to get out...

ei8htx: the fake police is the person(s) shooting on the youth camp

NOW: "Helpers of the global Jihad"(or something) is claiming responsibility on a Internet board, but no ones has heard of this group before, so that might just be someone looking to profit.

I've got several friends in Oslo, hopefully none of them(I believe) works or live close to the area bombed.
