We Now Have Mass Public Unrest In France, Spain, Algeria, Iraq, Lebanon, Egypt, Hong Kong, Venezuela, Chile, Ecuador And Bolivia. At what point is rising political instability going to start affecting the interlocked global economy and financial system?

May I suggest you look at this from another viewpoint?

The protests may be driven by economic factors, rather then the other way around.

The locations listed, with the possible exception of Hong Kong, are in moderate to deep/serious financial trouble.

Chile is generally regraded in the US as stable and a economic success story. Scratching the surface reveals some endemic issues that have yet to be resolved. The train fare hike seemed to be the 'last straw' for too many.

At the other end of the spectrum in SA, Venezuela, is in active melt down.

There really is no pattern here. With the exception of Hong Kong I am trying to recall the last time there was NOT unrest in those countries. Hong Kong is also a big exception as the protests are not at all economic but instead entirely political.
Since 2009 Bolivia has working on a record for the most stable government they have had in the last 150 years.
There are always protests in France about something, Algeria too.
Egypt (among other Middle Eastern Countries) is running out of oil (money). Their production is 60% of 1995 levels and their reserves about 85% depleted.
Iraq is Iraq. Revolt and war is kind of a natural state for them.
Lebanon has never been stable, ever. Big injections of foreign money keep it above water, that is it.
Venezuela is bearing the fruits of the current socialist revolution.
Ecuador has a number of normal problems like the president trying to change the constitution to hold power, taxes levied against the rich and the bread and circuses funds running low. Nothing new here.
In Chile they are not protesting economic conditions, they are protesting perceived inequality.

More precisely, they're driven by rising popular anger over corrupt and venal elites that have rigged the system for their own advantage, while systematically plundering the 99%. At some point the 99% are going to say, "Enough!"

Iraqis, fed up with the corruption and ineptitude of the government, want the Prime Minister and all Parliament members to step down.

https://www.theguardian.com/world/video ... rgas-video

Tens of thousands took to the streets of Baghdad on Friday under clouds of teargas to demand the removal of the elected government in the biggest protest movement in Iraq since the fall of Saddam Hussein. The city’s Tahrir Square was a chaotic scene of flag-waving demonstrators battling with security forces, while tuk-tuks ferried off wounded dissenters as riot police fired teargas.

Amnesty International this week accused Iraqi security chiefs of using military grade teargas – up to 10 times more powerful than that typically used for crowd control – to try to quell the unrest

The interesting thing in Iraq is waiting to see if Iran will send official forces to the country to try to stabilize it. That might actually cause an upswing in protests and light a blaze that could engulf the region.

Yes. If one votes for a reason and purpose, and the leaders ignore the reason and purpose after the vote, the idea of a vote fails. Society as we know it begins to dissolve not much later. Speaker Tip O'Neill once famously said, "All politics is local." One thing that is very local is the leather binder in your back pocket that holds your folding money. In other words, one is self-interested. This is natural. When it all lacks meaning and only benefits the few the only thing that can hold it together is ________________. Honestly, I don't know the answer.
It's not what you look at that matters, it's what you see.

The mayor of a small town in Bolivia has been attacked by opposition protesters who dragged her through the streets barefoot, covered her in red paint and forcibly cut her hair.

Let's do the deep dive in Chile. Should be instructive.

Protests in Chile spread into wealthy Santiago neigborhoods

https://news.yahoo.com/chile-president- ... 34436.html
The Chile thing is interesting. It began with a dream.
Next year, Latin America’s second largest subway system, will source 60 per cent of its energy from solar and wind projects. In a statement Metro de Santiago said that it had signed two 15-year agreements, one with a solar energy provider, and another with a wind power company.
http://www.climateaction.org/news/chile ... r-and-wind

The dream was poorly planned and unaffordable.
The Chilean government’s climate policies are causing the country’s people to suffer. Chile’s electricity prices have risen 18% in just the past year — making Chile’s electricity costs the highest in all of South America. Before the riots, the government had announced that electricity prices would increase an additional 9% by the end of 2019, a plan it canceled in response to the violence in the streets.
http://www.thegwpf.com/chile-and-the-re ... -policies/
In Chile, gasoline prices reflect the lower oil prices. Chilean gasoline prices were $1.12 U.S. per liter in August 2019 (the last month for which data are available), compared to $1.28 a year ago. Five years ago, Chilean gasoline sold at $1.50 U.S.
Santiago Metro fares are rising, despite falling oil and gasoline prices, because government officials in 2018 traded out most of the Metro’s energy sources from conventional power to wind and solar power. The Chilean government also hit the portion of conventional power that remains with new carbon dioxide taxes.
As a result, Chileans are now burdened by higher Metro fares reflecting unnecessary energy price hikes. As Chileans protest in the streets, climate activists and their media allies want people to believe oil is to blame rather than government climate programs that raise energy prices and impoverish people.
https://www.thegwpf.com/expensive-clima ... in-france/

The faulty blame shift begins
The protest by students began on Monday when hundreds of young people mobbed several stations in Santiago, jumping over or dipping under turnstiles to protest a 4% increase in subway fares from about US$1 to US$1,16. Chile doesn’t produce its own oil and must import its fuel, leading to high prices for gasoline, electricity and elevated public transportation costs.

https://en.mercopress.com/2019/10/19/sa ... zza-parlor

Irony Rears her head
Chile has pulled out of hosting two major international summits, including a UN climate change conference, as anti-government protests continue.
President Sebastián Piñera said the decision had caused him "pain" but his government needed "to prioritise re-establishing public order".
The COP25 climate summit was scheduled for 2 to 13 December, while the Apec trade forum was next month.
The UN said it was now looking at alternative venues.
IMO they need to hold the summit in Chile. The plan of showcasing the green powered mass transit system needs to be given the go ahead. Leaders need to see the results of their policies laid bare.

Let's do a deep dive in to Bolivia. Should be interesting.

In 2005 the Movement for Socialism–Political Instrument for the Sovereignty of the Peoples Party (yes that is a real name) led By Evo Morales was elected in to office on a majority vote, the first in the Nation's history. Their first move was to nationalize the country petro assets (if this is starting to sound familiar there is a similar country called Venezuela but that is a whole other story).

In 2005 Bolivia had it's foreign debt "forgiven" by the World Bank. Free from debt with the newly nationalized gas income Bolivia became a growth powerhouse and life suddenly became very good for Bolivians. They barely even noticed the economic down turn 2008-11.

Morales kept getting reelected by large margins. He was the first indigenous president to be democratically elected in South America and the second to be elected head of State in all the Americas. Bolivia has a very large indigenous population.

https://jubileedebt.org.uk/news/impact- ... in-bolivia

The problem was that not everyone got rich or their lives improved fast enough. Certainly Morales was doing well. Running around the country putting babies in to bellies (he is single) and getting rich despite his self proclaimed communist-socialist ideology that appears to be more of mixed economy approach with well funded social programs. Be that as it may per capita GDP has soared in Bolivia from the lowest to the middle of the pack in South/ Central America.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evo_Moral ... c_protests

Then came the 2019 election. Morales was voted to not be on the ballot by his party. Then suddenly he was anyway. Morales was not winning the election by a majority on election night. He was running ahead with about 40% of the vote. Mid election they stopped counting votes for 24 hours. When they started again suddenly Morales was well North of 50%. This triggered immediate protests by other contenders. Morales is still very popular in Bolivia. But there is a huge problem with perception that he cheated the election to avoid a runoff.
