The leader of the current OPFOR isn't as sane as was the leader of the other OPFOR.

An extra $6840 from my (non-existent) Social Security benefits by ordering a pamphlet from that site. I was too lazy to even push the "X". Just closed the tab.

So we have a rhetoric loving, xenophobic, paranoid, fat, spoiled little rich kid who brutally climbed his way to the top of his country leadership and spends most of his days making threats and publicly denigrating everyone he does not like. He has the support of Russia. All while eating lots of cheese and plotting world domination with his army of dedicated slaves.

Then we have Kim Jong-Un....

Sarcasm aside I really hope this is a bunch of talk. Which one is going to be the adult here?

Then we have Kim Jong-Un....
I laughed. A friend said that for the first time in his life we now have a real-life Bond villain with the futuristic high-n-tight and grey long suit. I've read that Jong-Un has a play room full of barbies and transformers in which he sets up in battle scenes while watching movies from his huge Disney animation collection. It may have been fake news. In other fake news: US agrees to help Poland with its new short-range nuclear missile program.

Russia and China have agreed on the need for a simultaneous freezing of North Korea's missile and nuclear program and large-scale military exercises by the United States and South Korea, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Tuesday.

Putin made his comments after holding talks with visiting Chinese President Xi Jinping in the Kremlin.

North Korea said on Tuesday it had successfully test-launched an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) for the first time, which flew a trajectory that experts said could allow a weapon to hit the U.S. state of Alaska.

The large scale exercises are held at the times of year most likely to be used by PDRK to invade the South.

By temporarily beefing up the forces, the US doesn't have to have a massive presence in country year round. This to prevent war.

If the 'freeze' happens, the PDRK will cheat or ignore it as they have repeatedly done in the past and it will leave the South badly defended at the times of highest risk to the South.

Yes. Major rotations complete as well. All public source: see Ulchi, Focus Lens, Ulchi-Focus Lens, Ulchi-Freedom Guardian, for instance. Many of us here have probably participated a time or two while enjoying the fermented cabbage delight and soju and Peggy's Rock-n-Roll bar. None of this is new except for the ICBM capability, whether they have the ability to custom design a payload or not. It is how the game is played.

North Korea threatens 'merciless blow' to US as data shows Moscow aiding regime

Russian exports to North Korea essentially doubled in the first five months of 2017, according to new data.

Some experts suggest Moscow will continue to use North Korea as a lever point to extract concessions from Washington on Syria, Ukraine and other issues.

In response to U.S. official embracing regime change in North Korea, a Pyongyang official vowed Tuesday to "strike a merciless blow at the heart of the U.S. with our powerful nuclear hammer."

Meantime, South Korea's military was on the lookout for North Korea to maybe conduct a new missile test Thursday to mark a military anniversary.

Lil' Kim just doesn't know when to quit. And now his ICBMs are getting better.

http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2017-07-2 ... er-chicago

While North Korea has test fired numerous ballistic missiles (mostly intermediate-range, including one intercontinental) in the past, and as such today's launch was largely seen as merely the latest political provocation to Trump by a seemingly oblivious Kim John-Un, there was one notable difference in the launch post-mortem: according to press and Pentagon reports, the maximum altitude attained by the ICBM was 3,700 km (2,300 miles) with a flight time of about 47 minutes. This is material because according to All Things Nuclear, based on the latest information, today’s missile test by North Korea could easily reach not only the US West Coast, but also a number of major US cities.

Half of US now within range of North Korean missiles, experts say. That's comforting.

US B-1B bombers overfly the Korean Peninsula in response to Kim Jong-Un's latest missile launch.

Meanwhile, China stages a show of strength with a huge military parade - and its military hasn't been fighting a Global War on Terror for the past 16 years.

Another THAAD test this week.

Now, 15 out of 15 hits one hit per launch. So, batting 100% is pretty good.

THAAD is great and all but it does not have a defensive capability vs ICBM's.

When the PDRK can demonstrate a re-entry vehicle that can steer, then, yes.

Right now the publicly acknowledged defensive layers are:
The Navy's SM-3 and SM-3LR - proven.

The THAAD - more than proven.
A THAAD Extended Range (THAAD-ER), in engineering now, will have the legs for engaging hypersonic targets. Additionally, The THAAD radar can interoperate with Aegis and Patriot systems, in a 3-layer antimissile defense. I haven't found any public data that would indicate the THAAD system currently employed in South Korea could take down a PDRK missile just after launch, an SM-3 can. The RADAR can certainly see any launches.

The PAC3+ proven many times.
The last ditch might be a CRAM, but that would be a hail Mary to say the least.

There is also the Aegis ashore program - a land-based version of the operational and proven Navy system. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PEBorxMLkjo)

I would note that Thales has off the shelf 200 Tera-watt steerable LASER systems that don't seem to get any press or love when it comes to ABM system integration...

The system in Alaska (Ground-based Mid-course Defense system) still has reliability issues (steering thrusters) and the last test (Jan 28, 2016) was a failure in that the 'warhead' missed the simulated ICBM target by 20 miles or so.

So, as the saying goes, it's best not to play the game to begin with.

Perhaps their frantic level of activity mirrors their concerns that the US might actualy do something.

Apparently defensive missile systems aren't the only things getting a quick once over as of late.

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/08/02/worl ... front&_r=0

I'm sure this was a regularly scheduled test and in no way timed to send any sort of message to NK. No siree, just your standard, routine, previously scheduled test ...
