ZOMBIECON 2014!

Post by whisk.e.rebellion » Wed Apr 02, 2014 6:17 pm

Nestled in rural Missouri is the small town of Irondale. It's a town that plays host to an annual gathering of zombie survival enthusiasts who want nothing more than to spend a few peaceful days bonding in the sun and water this location provides. It's here where Zombie Squad host its annual Zombie Con retreat, where members from all over the continent show mix, mingle, and become fast friends.

Are you in need of camaraderie? Are you missing your ZS buddies? Is your life devoid of men and women who haven't showered in days? Is -

You know what? This is the tenth one of these. By now, we're not even sure what we can tell you that you don't already know.

We've begged you to come, and we've warned you not to. We've told you how awesome our camp site is, and we've told you how much is sucks to camp on a 45 degree incline for a week. We've told you how beautiful Irondale is, and we've warned you that scorpions and tics will probably infest every inch of your body and gear. We've assured you that it'll be the time of your life, and that you'll probably die here.

You kept coming. Which really just proves that all marketing is bogus and people are going to do whatever they want to do regardless of what you tell them.

We are going to do some crazy stuff though. It's our Xth Zombie Con. Hillside Karaoke? Maybe. Downhill bowling? Maybe not. Who knows? Is that a thing? Might be. Show up and find out. Have a crazy idea of your own? Tell us. Maybe we'll do it. Maybe we'll put you on a list of people to keep an eye on. Maybe we'll tell the FBI. Maybe you'll be a rock star.

You won't know unless you show up. So show up.

Register first. If you show up without registering, we'll probably have you arrested.

Learn more and register here.

Re-membershipped and signed up for ZCon. Looking forward to it after last year's hiatus.

To hell with that. I bought a hammock setup for this one. I plan on bringing so many goodies it ain't even funny, including lots of homemade hooch (in plastic bottles) and cigars.

Hammocks are totally where it's at for ZCON.

I will be working at a nearby rural hospital. Stay safe you guys. I'd try to make an appearance but my soon to be husband and I will be just getting back from our honeymoon a bit before.

I will try to make it to the meet and greet afterward. I've been slacking on being social lately.

I will be there, and more importantly, the chick I live with that makes the fresh bread on the fire will be there. (My wife Sylvia) This year she's riding her Ducati. She's that cool.

Tell Sylvia that we're looking forward to seeing her there, and if she ends up slaughtering any deer by the side of the road in a cocktail dress on the way that we expect her to bring venison to share

"How to dress game in dress clothes" does sound like a class at Z-Con..

Is it sold out yet? I've been working 12-14 hour days in 10-14 day blocks. I REALLY want to go, but I REALLY want to be debt free. Also not sure work will give me the time with such little notice.
Is there a "must register by" date, or just when all the spots are filled?
How many spots are still open at the moment?

Zombie Con X: Informational Release #1 & #2

Post by iloveash » Mon May 26, 2014 6:06 pm

ZOMBIE CON 2014
Zombie Con X
Decennial Celebration, our Aluminum anniversary

ZCON X.
2014 celebrates the 10th year of Zombie Con, the yearly gathering of Zombie Squad members from around the world. Whether you are a ZCON alumni or a Manbath virgin, this is the year you want to drag your ass to the middle of Missouri to celebrate this ostentatious event.

The Decennial celebration will include a revamped schedule, a ceremonial pancake breakfast infused with the joyous tears of our fearless leader, a “formal night” complete with cocktails and karaoke hosted by your Board of Directors, and a complimentary candlelit tick-check by the gentle hands our ZS medic (please schedule in advance as this will fill up quickly(ZS medic note: I don’t remember signing up for any of this?)).

As an added bonus, we have rolled back ZCON membership to 2004 prices! If you have not yet registered for ZCON X, you better do it quickly as spaces limited and filling up fast. Also, we will talk about you if you’re not there.
http://www.zombiehunters.org/store/inde ... ucts_id=34

This is the first in a series of emails you will be receiving to help you PREPARE for ZCon X. It is vital that you take a moment and read all the helpful information your ZCon X team has put together. For you first-timers, this should help you navigate ZCon like a pro. For those of you who are alumni, please read the information as there are always changes! There will be a test and it will be scantron.

In this email you will receive the following information:
-What is Zombie Con
-When and where it is
-Suggested items to bring

Zombie Con: What happens at ZCON lives forever in our hearts and on the internet!
ZCON is geared to put your survival skills to the test by challenging you to spend 5 days isolated on the side of a scenic Missouri mountain with 70 fellow ZS members. The camping area is on private land, so you will not be bothered by such annoyances as car campers, showers, electricity, or quickie marts. The days are filled with educational seminars, friendly tick checks, hikes, swimming in the infamous "Manbath”, fishing, a day at the shooting range and a canoe trip. At night, you'll have the opportunity to view the best and the worst Zombie/Survival films known to man at the ZS theater or get your fix of camaraderie around the campfire.

Zombie Con is a members only, 21 years old and up event, so make sure your membership is up to date and your state ID is valid. We will be checking and it is a bit of a trek into the middle of nowhere for you to find out you can’t stay.

The When and Where:
Zombie Con will be held Wednesday, June 25th to Sunday, June 29th.
It is held in Irondale, Mo: 1.5 hours southwest of St. Louis, Mo.
Once payment has been received you will be forwarded the super secret directions.

Be Prepared aka Don’t Die
The following is a list of suggested items for ZCon X
ZS will be supplying water for the entire weekend. Thanks to the magical Bellers Pump of Awesome, spring water will be pumped thousands of feet up the side Mount Doom into our state of the art filtration system for your enjoyment.
· Identification – We must legally know if you are over 21. DON’T FORGET YOUR ID!!
· Portable shelter – Staking sucks on this rocky site so we recommend bringing rope to tie it down. A rainfly will be helpful; rain is always in the forecast!
· Food - Bring it. Unless you wanna die. The ZS medic recommends that you don’t die.
· Appropriate Clothing – Plan for hot/dry to rainy/cold. Remember that Mother Nature hates you and the Midwest is where she likes to have mood swings.
· Jacket – it can get chilly at night
· Swimming suit or Mankini- Shudder…
· Water shoes – for “Man Bath”, which is full of painful rocks/crawdads and for the canoe trip
· Backpack -to put your stuff in
· Decent boots or shoes- the terrain on the mountain is an ever shifting mélange of loose dirt, razor sharp stones, and angry ticks. Choose wisely.
· Towel - the most massively useful thing any interstellar zombie hunter can have!
· Poncho or raincoat - it could rain all weekend so be prepared for the worst!
· Flashlight – Make sure to bring extra batteries.
· Mess kit – with cooking utensils, drinking cup, etc.
· Sleeping Bag- I really shouldn’t have to be telling you why to bring this.
· Mosquito and tick repellent -Missouri is a full of those nasty critters!
· Sunscreen- because nobody likes the overcooked lobster look.
· Knife- you wouldn’t want to be embarrassed if Paul Hogan shows up.
· First aid/medication - ZS has lots of emergency first-aid supplies on hand but due to liability we cannot hand out medication, including Aspirin.
· Plastic bags -for your equipment in case of bad weather. There are few things more miserable than soggy socks and drawers.
· Hat and/or sunglasses- mostly so you can wear them at night. (ZS is not liable for any injuries sustained while wearing sunglasses at night)
· Camp chair -because rocks are hard and everyone will make fun of you sitting in the dirt.
· Camera - pictures or it didn't happen

That’s the basic. When, where, and what to bring at a minimum to make your ZCon experience fun and memorable without a story that ends in “and that’s why I have the hook.”

In the coming weeks you will be receiving more emails chock full of information to help you better prepare for ZCON X. Some of the topics we will cover include:

· What to expect when you get to ZCon
· Check in times
· Contact info in case you get lost or are late
· Where to pitch your tent (heh)
· ZCON Rules
· Seminar information
· ZCON After Dark highlights
· Contests and raffles
· ZCON expectations aka YOUR part in all of this
· Daily activity schedule
· Range Day
· Canoe Trip

Talk to you soon!

We have made 60+ mile contacts on 2-meter HT's from the top of the mountain at the z-con site, and a couple years ago got a special event call sign for the mountaintop HF guys to use.

It's a great spot for contesting if you want to come out and do it.

Unless June 28th-29th isn't the last full weekend in June, I'm pretty sure it is.

To be fair, I have zero interest in actually making any contacts, just one of those things that as long as there is anyone living in my family, I've got something better to be doing field day...
