Can we get an approximate idea of how close we are to our goal? Some of us might be able, and willing, to contribute a little more to help us reach it.

In case people somehow think this disaster has now passed, here's an article from yesterday's paper. Residents in some communities have only this week been allowed to return to their homes to inspect the damage. And for some, discover that they literally have no home to go back to.

Glad this popped back up to remind me I hadn't donated yet. At least I've accomplished one thing today...

C'mon, these people clearly need help!

The impact of this tragedy is still unfolding. The National Transportation Safety Board is now investigating the possibility that Sandy weakened the New Jersey bridge structure where a freight train derailed, resulting in that massive chemical spill.

As if these people didn't already have enough on their plates.

Going to donate either way, but is this considered tax deductible?

ZS is in the final stages of getting our 501c3 status from the IRS (we are already a registered non-profit corporation but not 501c3) so we can't offer our tax deduction for this drive. However, what we have done in the past is supply a list of donors along with the check to the charity so there is a record of where the donation came directly from. This way all donors can claim the donation with the charity and request a receipt if you need it for your tax records.

In the future (very soon they tell us) that nonsense can be avoided as you will technically be donating to ZS and a receipt from us will suffice for your records.

UPDATE #2

ZS is now a tax-exempt 501(c)3 non-profit. What does this mean? It means that any donation you make to this drive can be deducted from your 2012 income taxes!. Time's running out for donations -- and tax deductions, so donate now!

Voting will be open from 12-Nov-2012 through 12-Dec-2012 or until we raise $15,000.
