I have seen more generators powered by 71 series DD in the oil patch than I have any other engine.

2-71, 3-71, 4-71 and 6-71 power heads on generators down here are still ubiquitous on push boats and work barges.

The 6-71 is an old design that was used extensively in WW-2. It is likely to be around for as long as MTU makes series 71 parts available to rebuild them.
