If the government was evacuating the affected area you were in on day of infection would you go and brave the mass amounts of people trying to leave aswell or would you not even bother?

What if you have kids. Would you try and get them out and you stay or try and leave all together?

Whats the cause?

If its flowing lava hell yeah my butt is out of the area fast.

If its a cloud of poison gas they better look quick because all they will see will be my taillights.

If its an invading army my fanny is staying put.

I think he made it clear that the cause was zombies. I wouldn't go with the government. Those guys never make it in the movies.

I'd immediately throw my lot with the zombies and help form an undead government. Our ruling philosophy would be "a brainstem in every pot".

The infected always win in the end. Why stick with the losing side?

No way in hell am I ever going to willingly be rounded up with thousands of other people and put in a sports arena or a camp.

My AoO is rural enough I would be just fine for quite a while before having to move on.

Well, he just said "in on day of infection" so bad grammar aside, could mean influenza, Ebola, TB on zombie plague.

So playing along as best I can, I and the family would stay put because being in a crowd with reduced sanitation resources is not the best way to avoid a communicable disease.

Unless they plan to decontaminate with napalm, then I'm hitting the road.

What better way to become infected than being in the middle of the unwashed masses?

I would be definitely bugging in.

Only 300 people live within a 6 mile radius of me.

I can handle that much easier than being disarmed and herded into the American Airlines center in downtown Dallas.

This is all from memory, experience, anecdotal evidence. I did not look at any FEMA or .gov handbook so please don't treat it as such.

-If there were a contagious infection, the government wouldn't really evacuate, they'd quarantine to prevent the spread. Just like how they will limit air traffic during SARs and Ebola scares.

-If there were a physical emergency such as a natural disaster, the government would call for an evacuation where it would be on an individual level where I could go where I wanted, I wouldn't be funneled onto a bus and shipped away.

-I have only seen "camps" or "safe zones" after things such hurricanes, tornados, wildfires, and if the hospitals got overwhelmed after such an emergency (like 9/11).

So basically, I'd never go to a government "camp" unless I were dying. If they called for an evacuation (fires, superstorm), I may leave depending on the situation, but I wouldn't get myself stuck on some highway in a gridlock. I don't live in a hurricane zone and the safest tornado shelters are a mile from me (my campus). If there were a contagion, I may try to leave for a while to go to my family's place if I were permitted by the Black Helicopters.

Zombies, aliens, red dawn.... then I'm staying put and holding up until the panic dies down then I'd reevaluate my situation.

if you go to a government camp you might not be dying when you went in, but you'll be dying to get out again, we all know what happens in those places, the guards aren't to stop people getting in, they are to stop people getting OUT!

I live in the 3rd biggest city in my state, so I would probably pack up and head for some of the more rural areas that I grew up in. I'd be better off away from people.

the further away from other people one is the better off they will be, we don't know how other people may react in a crisis and it may not be wise to hang around to find out.

Yes this post was about (day one of a zombie outbreak)

I have another question i might add would it be wise to leave or do anything rational on day 1 (i know it depends on how it is happening and we will never really know how we will retact) what if you go to get somthing and end up killing someone (accidentally or not) or run someone over and it ends up being contained.

if normal rules apply(i.e. NOT W.R.O.L.)then that person has got one very large problem.

Bugging in I have lots of supplies. Making me go mobile adds stress and removes resources simultaneously. For zombies, I would fortify in place. If these zombies are fast ones, then we bug out.

I have an elderly mother in bad health and a wife who loves our cats. I'm staying put as long as possible.

Signs WILL be going up informing anyone who comes by to not approach the house, or they will "Get a roight slap to the head". I also have a full roll of barbed wire I have saved back for "special occasions".

If the problem is something I can't shoot/burn/threaten/bribe, I might think more of grabbing everything important and running.

I'm possible one of the guys that will have to lead the evacuation as a military officer.
And would evacuate with them, this is smart i think.
In the Biology we call it the "dilution-effect": animals in a big group have more chance to survive predators.
But... the moment food runs out and chaos start spreading I would make sure that my family is save.
Alone with your family locked in in a town full with Zombies is a Hopeless situation.

Good Grief...how do you stand the overcrowding?

I have 150 people within 50 miles of my home, and I think some of them are still too close.

I honestly don't think it is a big problem. At the time of the event 911 and responders will be overloaded so it is unlikely you will have to deal with LEOs on the day of the incident. Run a dash or body cam and take cellphone pix so you have evidence to back up your story if you ever end up being questioned. Take someone with you who will back up your story.
