1. Things don't happen the way they do in the movies.
2. Things need to really, really, really go to stuff before any of us will become community gurus, yojimbos or lords of our own little fifedoms.
3. The marketing department at Useless Gubbins Co. is a lot more resilient than you think.
4. Joe Six-Pack and Sharon from the Residents Association have very large, very durable support networks that can kick in very quickly, in many ways it may be superior to your preparedness network.
5. You're only one piece of legislation away from prepping becoming hoarding.
6. By far the majority of people, whatever their politics, will do pretty much exactly as they're told, whether it is "right" or not.
7. It does not take any coercion for otherwise lovely people to "drop a dime" on a neighbour.
8. You don't have to trust the MSM but neither can you assume that the Twitter based Deep Throat who shares your political or sociological leanings is truthful or accurate.
9. Knowing the temperature at which the bacteria responsible for generating yogurt are most active is at least as important as memorising windage data.
10. There is a very fine line between valuing you and yours (however you define that) to a high degree and sociopathic narcissism. "Preppers" exist on both sides of that line.
