According to the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare, it has been confirmed that men in their 60s living in Aichi Prefecture are infected with the new coronavirus.

The man showed signs of pneumonia after the onset of cold symptoms on the 3rd of this month and was hospitalized on the 13th for a virus test. As a result, infection was confirmed on the 14th.

The man stayed in Hawaii on a trip from 28th of this month to 7th of this month, and had been recuperating at home since the 8th.

This was a (theoretically) one time change as the Chinese government switched Hubei to counting clinically diagnosed (doctors looking at lung CTs) as part of their confirmed numbers. Still really not a massive change since we knew the epicenter of the outbreak was test\care limited. I'd still guess the numbers are under reported by at least 10x, probably much more. Hubei doesn't have enough beds to get the critically ill into care, anyone who's not at that level is going to be mostly ignored.

The Ashland group arrived last friday and were put in quarantine. The confirmed case from Texas was on the same plane, so we now know they definitely were exposed. The University of Nebraska Medical center in Omaha has a 10 bed bio-containment unit (we got some of the ebola patients a couple years ago) so I thought a group could end up here. So far not much news about them since they arrived.

The Japan cases have me concerned since it looks like they are in community spread the same as Hong Kong and Thailand now.
The Tokyo taxi driver having caught it and likely spread it to a big group of other drivers on 1/18 means it will be almost impossible to contact trace every one. Last year, manufacturing of intermediate or finished goods in China, as well as pharmaceutical source material, accounted for 95 percent of U.S. imports of ibuprofen, 91 percent of U.S. imports of hydrocortisone, 70 percent of U.S. imports of acetaminophen, 40 to 45 percent of U.S. imports of penicillin, and 40 percent of U.S. imports of heparin, according to the Commerce Department. In total, 80 percent of the U.S. supply of antibiotics are made in China.

While much of the fill finishing work (the actual formulation of finished drug capsules and tablets) is done outside China (and often in India) the starting and intermediate chemicals are often sourced in China. Moreover, the U.S. generic drug industry can no longer produce certain critical medicines such as penicillin and doxycycline without these chemical components.

I wonder if it's different drugs or Puerto Rico is the place the medicines were made after receiving ingredients from China? In any case the out sourcing of manufacturing and critical materials has put our country in a severe security threat situation

Just heard a phone conversation between a Chinese investigator and a female employee at one of the 7 crematoria in Wuhan. Man I had no idea women could curse like that.

Apparently this particular crematorium has been so busy lately that their staff of 110 has barely had a chance to sleep.

She said to the investigator, who was impersonating her boss, that they would need at least another 40 or 50 extra people to cope with the influx of bodies.

Of the 18 ovens she said only 11 were functional and it takes about 50 minutes to process a body.

Going by the tone of her voice, it would seem some of these people are getting disgruntled.

So we rightly believe that in a long term disaster. Best chance at survival is having a network of neighbors and friends in close proximity to your home. But an unsettling thought occurred to me last night. If there's a pandemic , where just being in close proximity to an infected person could infect one. The fear of getting sick from the close cooperation needed to survive will insure most people are islands in their home. Nobody is going to want to help each other if they can catch a disease from a person not showing symptoms

I actually don't speak Mandarin, it was a video with subtitles so take it for what it's worth. Again I lack the skills to link videos on my phone. I'll try to find it again and post the title of the video.

She did say that the female staff operate the crematorium while the men drive around picking up remains. Non stop apparently with a mandatory deadline.
